Re: 56 shop truck build
I spent a little time yesterday removing the badging, wiper arms, bumpers, head light bezels and the entire bed is unbolted and ready to remove so we can get started on some body work and sanding this week. First step will be to sand the entire thin gang get a couple coats of black epoxy primer on it, then we will smooth some of the body out with filler. This will be our starting point for the weathered paint finish

Re: 56 shop truck build
Staying warm is key. It's been dipping down into the -40 range every night this week.

Re: 56 shop truck build
New Years day we plan on starting the sanding process so we can clean up some surface rust, level most of the truck out and get to shooting some black epoxy primer over the entire body

Re: 56 shop truck build
Did you just use a spray glue on the door panel, or thin panel and velcro or ?? to attach the fabric??? Truck is looking great.

Re: 56 shop truck build
The fabric and the thin wooden backing layer were both sprayed with 3M spray adhesive and allowed to sit and tack up before being bonded together. Then we made relief cuts for the the corners and the 2 holes so it could wrap around the edge without being to raised.
we placed the door panel on a flat surface, sprayed the back of the upholstered panel with spray adhesive, put it in place and then used 50lbs of weight to compress and hold it for 24 hours.

Hey Tim, you see alot of Rally's around on almost everything but they just look real cool on your truck. Mate that combo including the stance is a winner! Cheers George.

Re: 56 shop truck build
Thanks guys. I've had a clear vision of how I wanted this truck to look for a lot of years. It's encouraging to know that others can see my vision of this build as clear as I can. We should finally be able to start sanding the body and get it prepped for the black epoxy primer by next week. I had some airbrush jobs to get done and clear coated before using the shop for play time so now that the last one will be out of the shop by the weekend, I get some room to spray

Re: 56 shop truck build
Alright, we finally got started on sanding. A couple more hours of scuffing and we'll shoot a couple coat of black epoxy primer.

Re: 56 shop truck build
No, just feathering out a few spots by hand.
