Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Cool! Re-doing the shape of the roof in metal, a ragtop, or a solid plexi roof?

HAHAHA!!! Great minds . . .
Lets see, Volkswagen cloth rollback, new Caddy Wagon double sunroofs, . . .
nope. Sectioning 2-3 inches out. Should give it a chopped look without the actual chopping.
Plus, while it is off, I am making a fiberglass mould of it so I have a smooth, paintable headliner.

BBEEP, Can not wait to see the difference. I thought about putting a sliding rag in my panel truck till I was reading about them leaking. Great build!

Just when I think this truck couldn't be any more fantastic than it already is you come up with something else that takes it a step higher. Can't wait to see the results of this.

1st tail light roughed in. I like the way it follows the contour of the door.

Should have it back from the dip shop by Christmas. Then will do the fiberglass mould of the outside to flip into the inside for a smooth, painted headliner.
When the body was dipped, there was too much sediment in the dip tank to clean the top. (& yes, will fix the hole in the roof before I do the glass)

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Slick idea for the headliner. I bought a fiberglass one off of EBay but I'm not sure how great it fits. I started fiberglassing some kick panels and it is in the 30's today in MI so it is taking a little time for the resin to set up..

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Since I plan to glass the dash, I figure I will only upholster from the windows down. Everything else inside will be painted body color, dash, headliner, window surrounds, pillars, etc.
And originally Marc, I was going to paint it black over the new Camaro Synergy Green Metallic--so love your truck!!

I am going to attempt to do most of my upholstery myself. I have started to design my door panels. I also have a large center console. I will post some pics under what did you do to your truck today when I get a little more done.

Thanks for the kind words. Mine is a custom mix but I get asked all the time if it is Synergy green..

Marc

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Did you have it dipped in the Portland area or? I'm pretty sure that somewhere in the build the cab I am putting together will be better off with a trip to the dip tank.

The hole in the roof from the light that was on the truck in it's early life?

I had it dipped in Eugene at Metalworks 541-341-3372.
The hole in the roof was from a factory looking vent. I suppose for the passengers on the cot!

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Around the windows, cowl, and interior with the first coat of primer.
The top goes back on, with 2-3 inches sectioned out, this week.

The interior metal, including the window surrounds, will be painted the accent color rather than upholstered. The side glass will be glued in.

The roof is back on!! Roughed in at this point, took about 2-3 inches out of the 'bulbous' top. Sectioned, pancaked, whatever you call it . . .
