Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build

Sounds like a plan on the arms. Why not just use Porterbuilts Foward Arms?

The engine is going to look outstanding with those webers!

I like the challenge of learning how, then trying to build my own parts when I think it's something I can tackle. Nothing against Poterbuilt, he make awesome parts!!

I'm planning on coating the carbs with PPG DX series aluminum conditioner to get this look. The stacks will be satin black and manifold will be Alpine Green like factory '66 327s, and I'll use either zinc plated steel lines or regular rubber fuel hose for more of a factory look.

Thanks, the air gauge is from a big truck, C60-C80 with air brakes. Nobody reproduces them so the classifieds here, eBay, Craigslist want ads, or junkyards are the only places to find one.

Body mount kit came in today, earlier than expected. Might get to start this weekend instead of next!

That's my second late night catch! The other was a just-posted Marchal Amplilux headlight for $65 BIN, ten bucks shipping. I posted it on a Porsche forum and sold it for $175 plus shipping the same week... I'm still kicking myself for selling that one, I should have pieced together a pair for Goldilocks.

Really neat headlights from the 60's/70's. They have a separate bulb and reflector for low/high beams so each reflector and lens section is suited for the beam pattern.

I bought it from US Parts Outlet on ebay. Shipping was very quick, got here a few days sooner than expected. I couldn't find anyone local that had them.

Nice, thanks for posting those! We nearly bought a '64 Vert that had been garaged for 30 years (no rust!) but the dude backed of the sale.

Thanks Dino! I'm diggin your blue/white '66 build!

I sold the front suspension and brake parts so I weighed it all while I had it pulled out. My digital scales have a 35 pound weight limit so I had to measure the heavy stuff with bathroom scales. It will be interesting (to me atleast) to see how much weight I can save with the rack and pinion kit, tubular arms, and CPP modular spindles.

  • Spindle/Rotor assembly- 55 pounds each / 110 pounds pair.
  • Caliper.- 10 pounds, 3.7 oz each / 20 pounds 7.70 oz pair.
  • Brake pads- 3 pounds, 10 oz set.
  • Stock coil springs- 11 pounds, 2.3 oz each / 22 pounds, 3.6 oz pair.
  • Upper A Arm- 9 pounds, 10.1 oz each / 19 pounds, 4.2 oz pair.
  • Lower A Arm- 25 pounds, 7.2 oz each / 50 pounds, 14.4 pounds pair.
  • Outer tie rod ends + adjuster sleeves- 2 pounds, 6.1 oz each / 4 pounds 12.2 oz pair.
  • Steering box, cross link, inner tie rods, pitman arm, idler arm, adapter bracket- 48 pounds.

Total weight- 279 pounds, 4.1 oz.

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build

That's the EFI version of what I'm wanting to build, very nice! That's 4k+ for just the intake and throttle bodies. Would still need an ECU and injectors, EFI fuel pump, etc, and I wouldn't have a clue how to tune it. I can build a carb'd intake for roughly $15-1750 and tune it myself with a $200 buck wideband AFR gauge. Four Empi 51mm EPC carbs (improved versions of Webers) are roughly $11-1200 and I'll build my own intake and linkage.
