Yeah I've been working out of town alot.
The only thing I've done is pull a couple pieces of trim since I installed the seats. |

Re: And so it begins................
The truck is just plain fun to drive. It's no wonder I see so many of them running around unfinished!! Look at Nuke's truck for pete's sake. He'll never get it painted now!!!!!![/QUOTE]
Hey now, i will get it painted, you wait and see, we have 8 months of winter up here, so you never know, but you are right i am having just too much fun driving it, but on the flip side, once it is fully done, you will have much more fun with it, and be able to start a new project, i already have a few more in the fires, 3 to be exact, plus everyone elses that has to get done, wait a minute you may be right, i might never gbet mine painted, darn it, sounds like my wife, "will you ever get that done!" LOL.

Re: And so it begins................
He wouldn't be able to work on any other projects. His 90 model GMC is a constant project but seems to be fairly done at this point, his 72 needs quite a bit of attending to and he's busy as all get out, and he pawned his last possible project on his son to fix once he beat it up for like 9 years. First had 3, then 2, now 1 so it's "THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!!!"

Re: And so it begins................
Well crap. I guess I was begging for something to make me park the hotrod wasn't I?
I headed over to Joe's today and I had this distinct knocking sound coming from the gas tank. Weird huh? I've checked everything I can think of and it looks like it's going to be a rod. Bum deal. I guess it's transferring through the fuel pump to the metal line coming to the gas tank. It's pretty faint under the hood but I'm almost positive now that it's a rod. Guess I'll be doing a tear down after all. Last edited by highperf4x4; 10-04-2009 at 10:45 PM. |

Re: And so it begins................
Excuses excuses excuses, you just wanted to tear it down to build a more powerful engine anyway, probaly is just a rock in the brake drums anway. GO ALL OUT!!!! that is what i say.

Re: And so it begins................
Hmm.... I think a fully forged bottom end, aluminum heads, wild cam, and a 8-71 blower are a must have for this rebuild

Re: And so it begins................
Actually I was just sitting in the hot tub and thinking about exactly how far I wanted to go with it!! I think I'm gonna cruise on over to summitracing.com and start piling up my wish list. I'll have it ready before christmas so you guys can pick out what you want to get for me!! Actually I figure if I set up a charitable donation and every member paypals me .50 for the next couple of months as they log in, I'll have a pretty hot motor next year!! |

Re: And so it begins................
you're going to get us thrown out of this bar!
I guess I need to figure out what's in the motor first. All I know about the '72 402's is they cut them down to 240hp but still over 400lbs torque. I wonder where exactly they made the reduction? Combustion chambers, pistons, cam? Maybe all of these. I want this dawg growling over 500hp if I'm going to do it. Last edited by highperf4x4; 10-05-2009 at 12:03 AM. |

Re: And so it begins................
Yeah when I got back from your place I raised it up and changed the tranny filter and fluid and pulled the dust cover off. All the torque converter bolts were good and tight and I spun the flywheel and couldn't see any fractures. I was able to tighten up the passenger side exhaust pipe to the manifold and I checked the starter, it's tight. I left the dust cover off and sure enough it was still doing it. The more I listened to it, the more it sounded like a rod.
As for the ls swap, it sounds cool but I get my kicks building performance engines and I could make a demon of a gen1 motor for less than what it would cost me to swap to a used lsx. Besides, I love the monster torque of the big blocks!! |

Re: And so it begins................
I need to go to bed but this is weighing on my mind. I wonder if this is a lifter issue and it's transferring to the fuel pump since the fuel pump rod runs on the cam and transferring to the fuel line coming to the tank? Maybe that's why it sounds so loud near the gas tank? I might just pull the vc's and take a peak.
