Thats how the patina look is essentially created, as people began to like the look of naturally rusted and weathered Trucks, they started creating it for themselves. Some though are successfull as with Buddy's truck...imo, and others really do look fake.
This was at a car show here in the UK, not a good patina look...imo

I think if you pick up the latest issue of classic trucks you will see it in a feature. My buddy bought it and re did the body and inside. Did it have a fatman mustang 2 and a 2 link rear?

Oh I know how and why its done but unless you're very good at it imo it looks like a bag of ass. I honestly do get the real patina look, it looks great if you live somewhere hot and dry like Arizona or Nevada etc but over here in the UK the fake stuff being done just looks like a rusty old POS or something from a theme park. It also makes me cringe when I see people taking a classic vehicle with great sheet metal and then pouring paintstripper over it followed by vinegar etc to make it rust, especially as I've spent the last 25 odd years fighting off rust from my cars. I saw pictures recently of a really lovely Beetle that someone just ripped the paint off and left it to rust. Its huge in the VW scene and I've even seen it done on late model cars like a 90's Passat and recent Golfs.

This was at my local show this summer, this I get and indeed really liked, very original down to the farm supplies company stickers in the windows but slammed on big rims with a lovely stainless side exit exhauts system.

I didn't get the one that had patches of very obviously deliberately exposed red oxide primer and bare metal that had all been cleared over to stop it rusting.

The pics I posted are of the truck 5windowpickup is talking about being your old truck... When our buddy bought it it the body did not look like it did in the pics you just posted... It had a fake patina job going on but no bare steel showing... I believe he bought it in Kentucky after seeing it at Columbus Goodguys in 2008... I wouldn't say it was a waste... That patina job that was on it in the pics you just posted was a little much IMO... I did like it in the eariler pics when you originally owned it...

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

you know what struck me funny on that truck is the front bumper i sanded down to so it would rust , but it would not its like it was stainless or something so i used rattle can blue on it and sanded it down allways thouhght it looked like crap but it stayed that way thru two other owners

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

That is funny... having the same issue with a couple of my pieces = getting them to rust...

But, I noticed the front bumper on your old truck also, and thought it was a good balance between the chrome on the grille and the rest (but was still curios why it was painted...??).

Sometimes its all about the right balance...

BuddyHolly,... Welcome to the board!
Nice truck. Very nice!

But,... you have to be a subscribing member to sell, buy, or place WTB/WIW ads on this forum.
All of this was in the rules that you agreed to when you registered.
I strongly suggest becoming a subscribing member. (You'll be one of 60,000+ members)
This is a great place to buy and sell.

I'm sure your post will be edited.

You can post all you want with out subscribing,... you just can't sell or place WTB/WIW ads.
I want to see more pics of your truck.

I do agree, there is definately a fine line between a good lookin patina job and a fake pos. I would love to go the patina route on mine but like you say with the weather we get here, I have no Truck left after a couple of years. Here's that 63 you took a pic of on Youtube.
