VERY NICE COLOR CHOICE. GOOD TO SEE SOME DIFFERANT COLORS OUT THERE. QUESTION:WAS THE ELECTRIC FAN YOU BOUGHT HARD TO INSTALL. DID IT COME WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEEDED TO INSTALL IT.

Thank for the compliments on the color JIMBO!
I bought the fan by itself and the shroud came from summit Racing.

That's the sad truth! If that day ever come's, then it's time to start a new project!

My son and his buddies have been helping me out for the price of a burger and fries, so I'm good on the help. Although I might still take you up on that.

Re: 58 GMC Project

Cal 58, I am joined this forum about 2 weeks ago and just finished looking thru your entire project and this is just awesome! I'm sure it brings a great feeling to you when everyone is telling you how great your truck is coming along. The 20's, the bags and all the details just make everything look magnificent. Once again great job.....

Re: 58 GMC Project

Cal 58 did you go with the original leafs? In your opinion do you need tubular control arms? I plan on doing air bags up front just like yours. If the stock arms work than that'll save me some money. Oh yeah one last question in regards to the camero frnt clip. I found one today at a wrecking yard, it's a 79 camero. The gentleman said it bolts off the rest of frame but I would have to weld it to my frame correct?

I took out 3 leaf's, flipped the rear, added 2 inch blocks and then added the air bag helper's to the leaf springs to lower up and down about 5 inches.

I keep the stock a-arm. Tubular arms are nice but very pricey. A 79 sub-frame would make a great donor. And yes, he's right. The sub-frame would bolt off and have to be welded to your frame. Even if you were to go with the Mustang II front, it would need to be welded too.

Re: 58 GMC Project

Great looking truck and good project thread.

I am thinking of bagging my 70 SWB with a leaf spring rear end. It looks like your setup is top-notch and was hoping you could provide me some more details and direction on which way I should go. The previous post said you took out 3 leaf's, flipped the rear and added 2 inch blocks to the rear. I would guess fully deflated, the rear drop is about 9 inches and fully inflated it would be around 4" ??? Also, are you using a drop spindle in the front. I couldn't find anything in the thread that specified.

More pics of your stance (inflated/deflated) and your air ride setup would be greatly appreciated. Again, great looking ride.

Re: 58 GMC Project

just finisched reading the treath front to back ........ thats going to be a great looking ride , realy like the color you chose for it too , so mush even that i might paint my own ride the same way if i ever make enough money for a professional paintjob .

little thing that worries me though , you have this batteriebox mounted inside the frame and it looks good but from the looks of it on the pic from the exaustsystem you'll never get the battery out again once the bed is mounted without removing the exaust and perhabs the driveshaft too .
are you going to make an accesspanel in the bed ?

little film that makes me cry : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HM4g...elated&search=

The battery will sit under the cab. The box I used is a drop down box. The picture you saw, the battery is up. If I were to remove the battery I would drop the box with the truck on jack stands.

Thanks for the coments on my project! I will be starting the motor up Sunday for the first time.

P.S. That video was a sad site to see. How could anyone to that to an american classic.

Re: 58 GMC Project

UPDATE!! Will after having this motor for over a year now I finally fired her up! She started right up on the first try, although it wasn’t total un-eventful. I had a few minor water leaks, a minor fuel link and a minor trans line leak, but fixed them all up and let her run for about 15 min. Man it was like giving birth and she sounded so sweet!
