Re: 64' K10 Project Long Bed
Jon,
A little late thanking you your post on the fan clutches. Not much progress, last year. The body panels are at the painter, forever, still waiting. Mainly painting is what waiting on to finish. Would be great to paint myself, however, no more painting for me, health reasons. Past year, found a pair of 17.5 6 lug wheel, working on getting 2 more, also a little body work, metal bumping on the cab. Finalized the original brake lines layout, with the help of Lyle. This truck had the brake lines highly modified, along with hydraulic brake lock added. Engine almost rebuilt, trans is rebuilt. Researched and have made decision on steering arm geometry, for steering arm. Also, added a four post lift to garage, should have done years ago. Started another project while waiting for truck to be painted. Short bed C10 truck. Building pretty much stock, with a few upgrades. Will be a driver. Hi Les, good to hear you are making some progress. Which 4-post did you acquire?

Re: 64' K10 Project Long Bed
Mike,
The four post is made by "Direct Lift" which is a "Rotary" company. It is I think a 9000 # capacity, "Pro Pack 9 Plus". Will get the specification on it. Very sturdy, like it a lot, would buy again. One of the features for choosing it, is the space between the runways, wider then most, more room to do stuff. It is made in China at a factory owned by Rotory, factory also make Rotory components too. Key for me was that factory is owned and operated by Rotory, vs certain other brands that send out a request for bids to build a certain number of lifts. Once they sell through these, they do another request for the lowest price to build another set of lifts. Some of them are not certified to industry standards. Delivered by truck, must have decent size fork lift. The package is heavy and long. Main issue is its length, and may not be able to center on fork lift ( big rotation force) unloading from tractor trailer. Then loaded on roll back and delivered to garage. Roll back dropped it off in garage stall. Unloaded onto three 1000# dollies. Used engine hoist with strap slings to unpack package. The slings had a large distance between the two end on the parts, e.g. runways, to keep part being lifted under controlled. The columns can be moved by two people. Planned placement of parts, because only had access to one side of lift. Also has sliding hydraulic lift, it allows the vehicle to be lifted off runways, to work on suspension, brake stuff. Purchased with a discount negotiated at time of purchase. Les Last edited by aotte1; 02-13-2018 at 01:13 AM. |

Re: 64' K10 Project Long Bed
Nice lift, I always wanted one like that. I went with a Kwik Lift when I had a normal garage like that due to limited height to lift. And when I moved Kwik Lift bought it back.

Re: 64' K10 Project Long Bed
Rocknrod,
Thanks for the lift complement. Do you have space for a lift now? You had to be good ( too cool for school) to be a Master Chief, congratulation on your Navy career. Lucky this garage is 11' tall, so lift works ok. Moved the garage door above the lift and installed a high lift garage door track, about 4" off ceiling, with a side opener. Not shown in photos above. Re: 64' K10 Project Long Bed
Nice lift Les. My buddy had one in his shop and a customer bought one for his garage. Well i got to install it. You are right, Heavy. It was dropped in front of his house. Long story short, my buddy and i had to move it 50 feet to his garage. not fun. Enjoy your lift.

Kimble,
Thanks for the complement on the lift. Two people moving one 50 ft. is a lot of work. mg, You are welcome, for the information. From my experience, you will enjoy it a lot. Makes so many projects a lot easier. Thank, Les |

Re: 64' K10 Project Long Bed
Ray,
Thanks for the request. Not much new to report on the 64’. Do have the 64’ cab on the frame. Will post new photos. My grandson and I are planning to get back on it soon. We have been working on our 66’ C20 Custom Camper, this past few months. Lots of body work on the cab/fenders. Putting 66 cab on frame now for final cab and fenders alignment, to finish body work. Included photo of 66’ cab and finders color cut in. Les Last edited by aotte1; 10-12-2019 at 12:09 AM. |

Re: 64' K10 Project Long Bed
Update on 64 K10, waiting for paint and body work.
Starting on another 64 to 66 K10 project. It is a 1966 GMC Suburban 4WD. Taking it apart currently. Needs lots of work, however, some good points for it too. Not a lot of rust on frame/suspension, and it is very original. Body has typical rust, and maybe more. Mainly concentrated on lower part of body, along with hood and fenders. The new project came from board member “southern parts”. A big thanks for getting me the 1966 GMC suburban K10. Last edited by aotte1; 07-31-2020 at 10:55 PM. |

Re: 64' K10 Project Long Bed
Looking good Les, and its good you have a helper most kids won't get off there phones. Haven't did much to my tk still need to change the trans. Hot weather and old age don't get along lol! I think my pto is part of my trans noise, thought of removing the winch but i would need some frame horns as they were cut off for the big bumper.
take care Les----------kimble

Let me know if you need more photos. These are V8 3 row radiator. Also should be able to get V8 4 row radiator Cross member if needed, will need to dig for it. Note: some of the measurement waste an inch for accuracy. Les |

Re: 64' K10 Project Long Bed
Hi Kimble,
Good to hear from you, have same issue, still hot and humid here. Waiting for cooler weather to start on 66’ GMC floor rust. Hopefully in a few weeks. Making some progress of frame/suspension. Working on axles and TC inside in AC too. You remember this process too, on front/rear spring shackles, bushings and pins. Removing, cleaning, replacing worn out parts. All that done now installing, one rear done. Thanks for all your help in past, along with your very helpful build ( 61K10 build ). Les Last edited by aotte1; 09-12-2020 at 12:18 AM. |

Re: 64' K10 Project Long Bed
Bill,
Will retry to get them for you. Are yours 2 or 4WD, they are different on C and K trucks. Assume yours are for K truck. Should have dusted off the frame. Les Last edited by aotte1; 09-20-2020 at 12:04 AM. |

I am going to try these for my 64, I think other than the 4 mounting bolts vs 3 they work.https://www.jegs.com/i/Key+Parts/576...hoCyBsQAvD_BwE

This is a very interesting build. Really enjoy the thoroughness and methodical approach. I'm also interested in your other two builds. Are yoU doing build threads for them?
