Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Tonight I got my column a little closer to being finished. Over the past week it's been disassembled, bead blasted, bodyworked and painted with self etching primer. I also made an aluminum bushing to support the shifter tube because the original plastic one was toast, hopefully it will tighten up the shift linkage. It will get a coat of Ford HP White when I paint the interior...

The fuel door looks great!
Just curious, what tank are you using and how will the filler tube be routed? |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Thanks! The fuel door is from a Ford Windstar van, it has almost the same reverse radius as the fender, only off by an 1/8" top and bottom. Got the fuel door, filler tube and lines for $12.95 at Pick a part!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Your 2nd photo answered my question. The side fill tank and notch would make it easy to connect. Nicely done...

the tank came with the c-notch and the frame boxing plate, that made it really easy to do!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
finally got the motor and trans mocked up in the 52 1ton
i measured and measured but seems like i somehow screwed up the mounts. looks like the motor can go still go back maybe 3/4 of a inch. gonna throw the core support, radiator, water pump and fan in before i go any further as i want to run a mechanical fan. but at the same time if i move the motor back anymore i may have to cut into the cab a bit. we shall see |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Spent the day carveing a new drop for the new steering column out of a 6x6" piece of 3/4" thick aluminum, just about done and broke a drill bit off in a blind hole, can't get it out at this point so looks like a do over, will change a couple things on the do over, more aluminum will be here next week.

Interesting front end mount. Are you planning on capping off the front where the horns were cut off?

haven't done jack in 2 weeks. my daily driver has required some attention so the 2 hours or less of work I need to get this thing on the road has to wait.

that's super slick. What are you spraying it with? Doesn't look like you even have a drop cloth on the floor!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
My 57 had the old style pedal with a pivot rod with a bracket spotwelded to the floor. Here's a pic of my floor and you can see the square indention where the bracket was located by the hump. I mounted my Lokar pedal there. I couldn't PM the pic so posted it here.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Sprayed using a cheapo HVLP gun with a 1.3 tip, PPG Omni Basecoat and satin clear. It all laid down pretty nicely considering I haven't touched a paint gun for many years. I did have a piece of cardboard on the floor but moved them before taking a picture...

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Got the spot welds on the tailgate smoothed and filled, filled and blocked some minor dents in the grille surround, front splash apron and blocked out the cowl above the firewall pinch weld. There's a little work to do on the steps then I can get all this stuff in primer surfacer.
