Rebuild on a shoestring.....continued

It's frustrating having the truck here and not being able to work on it....I really need to finish up and do the body work and paint before I do MOST of the rest of the things I want to...

Tomorrow after shipping some parts and doing yardwork I plan to take the front end off and do a final degrease and cleanup and then power wash the undercarriage better. Then I will be able to get to the front end to clean it and the engine/tranny up better. After they're cleaned I will paint up the engine...then it'll be time to go back to the body shop for paint

I know the feeling. Mine just sits in the garage calling for me to work on it or drive it. But plates that expired 2 years ago, open headers and no shock put a halt to that idea. Keep up the progress, between you and Keith(lolife99) your keeping me motivated to work on mine.

Cool, thanks for the compliment. I won't get time to work on it today. Had to watch the chillins today for my wife who's been working on 2-3 hours sleep a night and it's not working for her

hey, i talked to a guy at Viair today in our talk he mentioned he worked at Budnik, come to find out he actually made my wheels and personally knows the original owner they were built for ....LOL small world

Talked to Glenn today. Plan is:

1) Disassemble front end between tomorrow and Monday
2) Pressure wash frame and strip engine
3) Paint engine
4) Paint front frame rails and crossmember, arms, etc.
5) Monday I am going to Top banana and hopefully will pick up 2 67 fenders, a rad support, and some other misc parts. I have the grille and hood and better inners.
6) Put the front end together and then I'll drive it over to Glenn's for final body work and paint!!!!! Probably a couple weeks from now.
7) After paint I'll drive it to Jason's house where I used to do all my projects and put it up on the lift and paint the frame and the underside of the cab and bed.
8) All the million little punch items that need to be done after that

I think that's the plan

I found a pretty nice square body crew cab rear seat yesterday in the color I wanted that will be going into my stepside. The width is just right and it tips forward like it should. The floor mounts even match up with the floor pan of the 69 cab. I need to fit it with the mounts & adjuster from my old seat though so it can be moved front to back as needed. Cost me all of $22.

Sounds like a good idea! I am keeping my eye out and options open and have a line on a nice bench cover I might use if I can get it cheap enough.

Looks good keep it goin. I am having the same issue you had on your other build with the boots fitting over the lower ball joints did you get that resolved and what did you do? O'Rielley is having another set delivered today but I don't know if they are just supposed to fit like they do or not. The boot will just barely slip over the top of the ball joint.

Thanks, I used some of the grease to get them on tighter but they never seated until I bolted everything together and then they did.

The moog ball joints have a metal washer made into the ruber on the bottom and top of the boot so I think its as far as its gonna go. Rewelded and recut my cups they are about 1/2" taller than they were. The bags look much more comfortable. To make myself more clear the top portion of the boo seats fine but the bigger end of the boot is the problem, it will just barely fit over the smallest portion of the taper on the balljoint. I'll go take a picture.

I am not sure on the moog, but mine seated all the way down...I'm guessing they'd cover the greased joint good enough but surprised they don't fit down lower...the ones I picked up were in NAPA's help section and my ball joints were part of CPP's front end kit (didn't come with boots ) ...

great progress on the truck man.the floor turned out great! never knew about putting undercoating on the floor before.may have to do that on the next truck in line!

Thanks! Just make sure to get a paintable undercoat or one that fully cures...some of them stay sticky which I wouldn't want in the cab. This one dried within 10 minutes and has the elastic qualities and soundproofing/rust preventative qualities of an undercoat...

Well, the weekend plans didn't happen other than me cutting the grass....after fixing my lawnmower....then took it to my sister in law's.....only to get there and end up fixing their lawnmower

It was my wife's B-day (which I knew) but forgot saturday was a wedding for a friend at church... so saturday was shot and Sunday I caught up on housework.

I did, however, get up to Top Banana today to pick up some parts. I also got some ordered Friday from Mikes B&G. So I have almost everything I need now for the truck.

I decided to go 67-68 front end on the truck, so I picked up a rad support and fenders. Also picked up a set of inners while I was there...but going to see how much work it is to fix my others first...

Also decided to buy some chrome bumpers...I personally really like chrome bumpers on these trucks....and both bumpers on the truck need work....but we'll see what I decide on paint...the white bumpers might look better since I will have the 67-68 grille in white...just didn't want to pay to ship later so I picked up the big items now...
