Got a Jegs box yesterday...... MSD is in, and a nice AEM dryflow. I met a guy locally who is building a 6.2 for his camaro for track days at PIR, and he wants my 317's and I want his L92's so a trade is going to happen. My heads and some cash for his. Only problem is one head dropped a valve, and the quote from the local machine shop was about $110 to fix it. Not too bad if that is the only thing wrong with it. Can't wait to get them on tuesday.

Hahah ok so this was my friends dads car, it was on its 3rd transmission, 2nd computer, and it would only run for 25 mins before the battery went dead. Basically they dumped way too much money into this junky Chrysler. So we bought it from him for 200 bucks and had our way with it.

We threw it on the lift and cut the exhaust off and drove it through town to my place. We got so many stares it was awesome.



Drove it through my field until the CV joint blew. End of the fun.



Smashed it up with the tractor a il



Then loaded it up and headed for the junkyard. Im the one driving the tractor.





Got $200 for it at the scrap yard, so pretty much didn't lose any money. Definitely worth it for two days entertainment.

lucky,You gonna get the l92's ported and worked or are you leaving them stock?

I was debating that, they need to go into the machine shop anyways, so I thought about asking them about some port work, don't know how much can be done. I was also considering milling .25 or so off the bottom to pump the CPR up to like 11:1

11:1...i am not really sure, but is that still pump gas?

i'd talk to some people about getting that high with a CPR...depending on where you live.

i know where i live here, you can get a bad tank of gas once in a while, and something that is walking the line already (like my 383) will ping. if you do it, never have the radio on while your beating on it, and always listen for detonation.

I talked to an engine builder on LS1tech and he has built a motor for his brothers corvette that is running 11:1 or higher (he suggested the milling to me) and said it should be no problem. But my question is, will the stock rods hold up to more comp.? I know I will already be pushing them with my goal of 500 or more HP, and a little more pressure on the rods might be the breaking point.

I have been looking around the LS1 forum and they are running milled 5.3 heads and making 11.5:1 CPR all day. The price to mill from the machine shop will determine if I do it or not

Poor firebird? Boy, that's living up to the smokey-and-the-bandit image! I had some seriously good times in that car.

It was a sixer, the lowly 3.1, but it had enough power to get it sideways and burn rubber. I got one speed ticket in it, but that was cruising on the freeway at midnight and being the only real car out there... I'd get into much more trouble with a V8.. Good thing the truck will be the exact opposite, fast in a straight line but like a boat in the corners, I'll go easy on it.


Got any work done yet slacker? My disk brakes are just about done.

Make sure you get a good quench area on the heads, and 11.1 should be fine.

I didn't see if you confirmed if it was an LQ4 or 9. LQ9 had stronger rods, but either should be fine for a 500hp build.

Your sig says you are going FI? I wouldn't recommend it with that CR. 10.1 yeah. You going to replace the pistons?

How do I find out which one it is? It is out of a 2002 Denali, what more do I need to find out if it is an LQ4 or LQ9?

FI will come in the future, for now the budget only allows a stock short block and budget build. If/when turbos come into play the CPR will be reduced significantly. I got my headers today! Stainless steel beauties. I can't wait to get them in. They are for an F Body so I might have to modify them a bit. Pics come soon.... and I spent a while organizing the garage today and cleaning out trash. I cleaned the valve covers and started polishing them with the dremel. I hope they turn out all right

Sweet headers...so are you still planning to do forced induction? Or did you change your mind to just go with a higher CR to make the HP you want.
