My '59 Apache

Well, I was doing great, but I wrestled with the Taiwan window regulator long enough! It was just too hard to turn, I used every kind of lubricant in my arsenal! I called Brothers and they are sending me a replacement ASAP. I thought that was pretty nice of them.


So in the meantime, I started on my rear bumper but discovered I need to make make holes for the brackets in the valance. I'll do this tomorrow. Dave Chapman had already chimed in with an answer on this topic, should be ok!

Denee I've came to a conclusion, I am going to Hopefully Trade my 30-06 and Commercial Grill towards the truck.We live out near the Country LOL, and throw in $250 in..I hope it works :/

I'll get those measurements for you in just a little bit when I get back out there, but I can tell you off hand, the front runner /the metal channel made from the wing window, the channel liner, the long continuous piece, fits that part perfectly, whereas this liner obviously is narrow in the top of the window frame, but is manageable in the channel nearest the door latch. I'll try to clear it up with pictures.

Orrie asked for some pics, but I have my camera ready and if anyone should need a pic, let me know or Orrie, if you need a specific measurent, or anything, let me know~

The channel on the left will be the front(nearest door hinge) window guide made out of the channel from the original wing windows. The channel on the right is the original channel/guide along the door latch, which some people cut the spot welds out to relocate it(like I did), or leave it be. I'd almost think it would necessary to relocate it, but I wouldnt' know! IT's tight enough as it is right now with the channel relocated. You really can't go with a wider channel guide as it won't fit the front channel. However, if one were to get an original guide like on the door latch side which is wide, and put it on the front, perhaps then look for a wider moulding/felt/runner, you know the liner that will go all the way around the window! Darn! What is that damn thing called! Then maybe that would be a way to remedy the gap without other means necessary.



There's some concern about the gap that will seen after it's all installed due to the narrowness of the new liner. On dark trucks like mine it's not that noticeable, but on a lighter color, will be noticeable., but look back a bit where Ogre posted a pic of his, he put weather strip stuff and it filled the gap nicely.



Here I don't have the sweeper on the inner part yet as I'll be painting the interior of the truck soon. These sweeps pretty much just pop in and I think they need to be put in last, cause if you have to pull your window back out, it's difficult to get the window out because of the permanent nuts on back of the sash.
A note: When I cut the tab/piece of metal that the wing window used to sit on, the outter body/inner went kabong and the gap increased about 1/4", which actually wound up being beneficial.
DARN!~ I just noticed on the pic above, the inner window thing, the part that is held by two screws, I forgot to push it towards the liner when taking this pic, it's not that wide at the top or that much of a gap. I have to figure a way to keep that arched looking piece of metal towards the liner/glass.

Thank you, that should tell me what I need. Bumper install is looking good, a pain but if you take small bites out of it you can get nice fit. Might think about making it a little bigger and using some split hose glued to the roll pan to act as a cushion in case the bed shifts. Might help keep the squeaks down.

I know him alright, Im hopefully going to get it for $800 because of the Rust ..I told him to take off the New tires and put on the old ones..He didnt Decline LOL..So Im trying to get a Job and sell somethings and get it..I'll post a Project when Im working on it

Well I see you're in tiny town, is work available? What do you do? My 67 mustang, I got it for 1300, but I have over 30k in it! In essence, the man could have given me the stang and it still would have been an expensive endeavor! Some things we think we may get a "good deal" on, but winds up being a money pit and takes precious time away from important things I'll be lucky to get half of the money I have in it; ). Jay Leno said we put a 100k in an old car and think we do good to sell it for half that! (Something like that).

My husband asks me If I'd like to work on the truck this past weekend~ I rarely get far cause he starts bugging me, "when will I be done?" "are you finished?" so I rarely get much done! However, I did clean out the cab of all tools, nuts, bolts, accumulated trash, etc. and put the rest of the seat in. Looks pretty nice! The engine cranks up easily and idles nicely! With no exhaust, it's OK! So, I asked Gary to get in the truck to go take the truck down the street~ I was a little nervous not totally trusting my brakes, which just need a little more bleeding~ I actually need to replace the brake lines on the rear axle, but they'll work for this short drive, but I pretty much just idled down the street and back to our driveway. The steering is effortless and we watched a tiny bit of Pirates of the carribean on the 7" monitor! lol

The side windows look nice~ the passenger will need to come back out so that I can install the passenger side mirror. Orrie had a nice pic of how he welded nuts inside the door~ so I'll be mimicking that idea

Today I'll be working on little stuff~ connecting the neutral safety switch, looking and doing something about the emergency brake, check all suspension nuts/bolts/cotter pins. You know how easy it is for forget to tighten a bolt or two?
Oh, I found my inner door panels (same color as the truck) up in my garage attic along with headlight bezels that are painted the same color as the truck! (I forgot about those)(might look nice vs chrome). So today is just piddly stuff! Not sure what to do about wheels/tires~ maybe just clean up what I have for now~ no hurry on that.
I do have an order of stuff coming in: carpet, nuts, screws, dome light, a rear slider window, hood latch, etc. So, maybe next week I'll get it to the muffler shop! I keep saying that!

Final check on all the bolts underneath is critical. When I did mine before putting the cab on I found motor mount bolts that I had not tightened completely down. I'm excited for you. I would have probably chosen Two Lane Blacktop for the inaugural video!

I was just looking at the rear suspension! I shouldn't even be looking at it! It has the stock rear springs and the pivots that one would grease, well they're in pretty sad shape, but I should be able to drive it soon despite that. I have the Posie sliders on the front, I'm thinking the same for the rear. Eh, I'll have questions soon enough

Question! When it comes time to work on the rear suspension, is it best to remove the bed? It doesnt look too bad to remove it. Mainly getting at those pivot points where the leaf springs pivot, look difficult to get at. Also, I do not have the wood floor in which makes it easier to work on the back end.

if you don't have bedwood in it, take it off.
the bolts have to come out and the rubbers need to be replaced.
with no bed wood it's barely hanging on anyway
the back sill bolts to the frame, everything from there forward hangs on the bedwood
when you corner hard the bed probably shifts side to side now

Unless the previous owner welded it to something like the front fenders...
engine hoist or your mule if it has the height to get the bottom over the tires OR pull the tires and it will go straight back.

Thankfully the bed wasn't screwed around with like the front! Well, it'll be a few weeks before I contend with the bed. However, a couple concerns is what to do with it when I lift it off the truck. One other question, where do I lift the bed from without damaging it?
How heavy is it? I could use an engine hoist, then place it on my 5x8 utility trailer? Put boards across the trailer to support the bed? Then I can pull the trailer out of my garage and cover the bed. The bed may be outside for a week or so.

here is how I supported mine during assembly. If I was going to do it for longer than the few hours I took I would flip it over onto the top rails, the bottom rolls in and will bend. Step sides are square and might be ok. I lifted with my engine hoist around the wheel wells with a thick fabric lifting harness from my Army days (we used them to lift our guns under Chinooks). You can strong arm it using three big guys. I took it off without the wood with one other person 15 years ago when I was stronger and had better knees than now.
