Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto

Thanks again for all the good words guys. Brad I think I'll follow in your foot steps on another build: father daughter tractor restoration I may be picking your brain on this once we are settled.

I'll shoot some more photos in the next coming weeks. Would be great to make it to WI in time to join a 4th of July parade.

Thats what I uses to blend my top when I patched the hard top when I yanked the original owners sunroof (who puts in a sunroof anyways??) I was surprised at how well the texture matches

I have a friend that just restored a blazer a couple years back for his in-laws and that is what he used . I didn't get to see it finished.

Looks amazing Pete! I hope I get to check out your trucks in person sometime. It seems as though you will be closer than ever, just a couple hours or less away

Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto

Arrived in WI without major issue and settling in. Very happy to be here - lots of surrounding agriculture and beautiful barns. Very enjoyable roads to drive.

Thanks again for the good words. I've not put too many miles on the Blazer yet but the ride is less stiff than my K20 to answer Hemi's earlier question. In fact, I plan to order Alcan springs for my K20 to be installed next spring. Also, the quick ratio in the steer box rebuilt by Red Head hasn't seemed squirrelly at speeds up to 65 mph and is less responsive than that in my 4Runner fwiw.

Bugs so far: speedo works but not clocking miles so have another to swap in from Tom (tbone64); radiator fluid weeps out the vent hose more than expected but temp gauge reads wnl so need to located my infared thermometer and measure fluid temp heading into the radiator; the original carb rebuilt by Sean Murphy Induction wouldn't smoothly idle so that at a local shop now, Bigs Performance Products, to be re-jetted and have the metering valve and accelerator pump gone through; need to get correct reduction gear for 3.73 gears so the speedo is accurate. Also wrinkled the SPID Chipflyer made

Hey Pete, you mentioned the door panels were originally green and painted parchment. Which paint/color code did you use for the match? Thanks! I've really enjoyed following the build.

Thanks for following! SEM super white was used and it’s a very good match imo.

Congratulations Pete! Such a dynamic restoration. Excellent blow by blow descriptives allowed all of us to follow along with your journey. You definitely have my vote for truck of the year! All the best for you and the family to enjoy bustin’ out of town in your fantastic K5!

Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto

I've read through both of your build threads now, making some notes. I'm more of an OEM guy than an NOS guy, but I can certainly appreciate the effort and the expense. A couple of beautiful trucks and glad to see that you get them out and about, even on dirt. I'm curious how you like the performance of your engine after rebuilding it to stock spec but with a RV or towing cam that is a roller. I like that idea and wondered how it worked for you.

Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto

Thanks for the good words guys. I’ll post some updated photos soon. Since my last post I’ve had slider windows installed, added a correct cruise master cruise control, installed a working odometer, swapped the rally wheels for white steel 15x8 wheels, and installed a NOS coolant overflow tank.

I love it. The ralleys are of course great...but this is how God intended it to be

...sliders look great too!

Edit: ...and also, how many 76 balls have you got!?!

Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto

Thanks guys. I’m really pleased with the wheels. These and the rallies I removed were powder coated but the inside of the hub holes were spared. I’ve had problems with wheel removal from the front hubs on prior trucks because of the powdercoat adhering to the hubs. The rallies were removed without difficulty.

I hope to enjoy several more drives before the snow flies.
