The drive shafts are still super long on these, if it's a 2wd. Too long IMO to run a one piece. Don't forget you will have to shorten the exhaust and e-brake cables also. I still haven't got my e-brake figured out, it's kinda low on the priority list right now
I say go for it!
I want another one, in a 4x4
Hey Joe there is a nice looking Crew Cab 4X4 for sale here in Tucson looks pretty stock I can check on it if you would like me too? I also saw a nice one on CL in phoenix already a short bed lifted and black I'll see if I can find it again and post a pic. Later Paul

After tonight's successful test-fit, I think this one finally qualifies.

You also have to shorten the bumper end of the frame which may only require drilling new holes to mount a bumper, or may be more involved than that.
Also, the holes for: mounting the bed, fuel tanks (I think), etc, are not in the proper place.
I still don't see the big issue. Shorten the frame the 14", replace the perches on the half ton differential if needed (I don't think it is needed), and bolt into place, trim off rear of the frame.

Much better idea than trying to mate a 1/2 ton frame to a 1 ton frame in my opinion. But like I said, unless I am missing something other than what is described above. Much easier and cleaner in my books.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'91 Crew Cab Short beds?

I will have to say that it's pretty easy to just shorten the frame rather than graft the 1/2 ton rear clip on. The spring perches do have to be relocated though. As far as the gas tank brackets and such go that's all pretty easy. If I were going to do another one( and eventually I am) I will just shorten the original frame just like I did last time

What's up Tracey?!?!
How are things out your way?
when you refer to relocating the spring perches, were you using the hangers from a DRW truck?
I'm almost certain that the SRW truck hangers are the same width of the 1/2 tons.....

Bagged74 - I have to say your ccsb is still one of my most favorite trucks. It was clean flat black with 22in wheels.

I guess the foolproof method of using a 1/2ton rear section grafted on to the crew front isn't so "foolproof"?
any progress on the solution?

Joe, I'm doing good. How about you?
I'm pretty sure the width on the spring perches on the 3/4 ton rearend weren't the same as the 1/2 ton.

Thanks! It's been almost a year since I hauled the parts home, so it feels good to finally be workin' on it.
Plans are to get the chassis converted to 4x4 before it gets too cold to work on it, then finish up the body & paint next spring/summer.

Some 3/4 tons have the narrow spring perches like all 1 ton trucks have -DRW and SRW.

Please document the process of converting to 4x4

Good info!

Will do.
I was thinking of starting a build thread once I get further along, assuming there's interest -- it's not going to be a fancy truck by any means.
