Great looking truck, was wondering what device you use to open the doors. I'm in the process of shaving my handles. just researching ideas.

Re: Post Your Ride 88-98 Trucks
I used the 85 pond pull solenoid kit from aim industries,85 bucks but the auto lock kit is better, solenoids are supposed to last longer . I would would also suggest running an emergency cable from the latch out the bottom of the door ,it can be tucked under the weather strip and pulled out with a wire if necessary.I have keyless entry locks so no one could ever just find it and break in plus if you locate your fuse for the solenoids under the hood and it blows or your battery goes dead you always have a way in.the kits all wire about the same once you figure it out can be installed in about 2 hours good luck.

Re: Post Your Ride 88-98 Trucks
here are some pics of my '94 ext. cab. just bought it in august with 102,000 miles on it and it is a super clean truck for iowa... it already had the rollup tonneu cover, nerf bars, and bug shield on it...so far i have put the 96-98 breakaway mirrors, flex-a-lite clutchless fan, rims, and custom 3"(same as factory just custom bent) with a super 40 series flowmaster muffler on it...changing the muffler gave better mileage, more power, and a better tone to it...a little quieter than what i was going for but thats okay...

Re: Post Your Ride 88-98 Trucks
Here's my 1993 GMC Sportside SL K1500. I ordered it the way I wanted on Labor Day (pretty much loaded) and took delivery on it on November 18, 1992
It's pretty much stock except for adding 4:10 gears, Doug Thorley Headers, Supertrap Power Chip, Underdrive pulleys, K&N Filter and Flowmaster exhaust. I'm as crazy about this truck now (after 16 years and 132K miles) as the day I took it off the lot. I LOVE this truck! Enjoy! |

Love those 454 SS trucks. I had a black one and now have a red one. I love the way they drive and handle. You have a nice truck, take care of it!

Re: Post Your Ride 88-98 Trucks
thanks....its actually a 5.7 "sport". has the same trim as the 454 except it has a 60/40 bench. swapped the stock 350 @ 180k for a new vortec crate motor whicch now has over 100k on it. its a keeper!

At some point, I'm going to need to rebuild or replace the motor on my '93 5.7GMC K-1500 Stepside. I'm interested in the Vortec motor that replaced your 350. Was there a noticeable performance improvement? Did the fuel economy suffer? Any and all details would be appreciated. Thanks... Chromer Last edited by Chromer; 01-13-2009 at 08:19 AM. |

Re: Post Your Ride 88-98 Trucks
I still have this`92 K3500.I ordered it when they came out with the 6.5TD.I got all the bells`n`whistles except posi(went with a locker). It`s a 5spd(ok,didn`t want the auto optioneither)/bucket seat/tach/camper/towing/off road pkg truck.I wanted the light biege interior, but they stopped offering the metallic gold I ran on my company trucks at the time.Everything else was spec`d and I hit this hurdle. The salesman flipped past a page with a 1/2 dozen colors and I asked to see those."I like that green,it`s classic".Well, you need a fleet account to order fleet colors(never change from year to year). This color is the same color all the way back,Woodland Green.Fleet accounts have to order a minimum of 10 trucks to get these colors.I asked what happens when an employee totals one of the trucks, the company has to order 10 to replace it?I had him check with GMC and they said I could have it if I waited for another order for that color. So,I ordered the truck in January and it was delivered in June.I gaurantee this is a one of a kind truck. The 6.5 was a late,92 1/2 option, listed as`93 for replacement parts.I doubt any fleet accounts would order SLE packages with all the options and not too many top-of-the-line trucks with a 5spd.Also,not many companies were springing for the diesel option back then. It`s got to be the only`92 Woodland Green SRW K3500 SLE 5spd 6.5TD which was only offered at the end of the model year. Not that that impresses anyone.

Re: Post Your Ride 88-98 Trucks
Unique truck. Probably is rare, not counting the 6.5TD. Great that you have a 5 spd. I kinda wish my 97 was a manual, would be more fun. Jammin gears is always a blast.
I wish I could find numbers on Bright blue Metallic. I know it's a rare color, the blue paint my truck has, but all I know is there's at least 6 or 7 other ones. GM needed like 7 orders in a color to make it. Special order? Got shelved at the end of the production year if 6 other people didn't want that color. I think that number has gone up now.

Re: Post Your Ride 88-98 Trucks
Is your color almost kinda purplish?I think I know what one you have. It`s deeper than that other more common blue.I was disappointed when the`88s came out. After seeing 5 year old work trucks taking whatever was thrown at then I started accepting them.My`84 was ready to move on from or start going over it pretty good.Considering downtime and the new motor I took the plunge.Couldn`t find anything close to what I needed and if I`m buying a new truck I want it to be exactly what I want. The NV4500 shifts much smoother than the 4spd New process trannies. These are a breed apart rom what I`d had and was a step into the future for me.It`s kinda odd,but I took a sport truck approach with this daily driver work truck...bucket seats/console,tach,5spd.It`s the first vehicle I`ve had that I let alone.I customized it from the factory,is how I saw it and I put my time into my vintage iron and bike hobby.I just tinted the window, cut the pipes and ran dual baloney slices out the back, ventshades,CatchAll mats,Detroit Locker, tweaked the t-bars to fit 285/75s,and gas shocks.
I got base`95 K3500 used in`98.It was Emerald Green,6.5TD,5spd,a/c,tilt,cruise.I did the opposite.I treated it like a conversion company starting out with a lower model and adding my touches experimenting with aftermarket stuff...then totalled it in`04.I had gotten into diesel performance and ended up in Jan`04 putting a crate Penninsular Marine 300hp 6.5TD.The`92 had 205,000 on it untouched and ready for injector pump, injectors, and glow-plugs.I decided I should drop the 6 month old boat motor in to get my money out of it.So,that`s what`s in the`92 with a Banks exhaust. I know I posted it way back in this stickie, but here it is(was). When I put the bed on I changed the color to GM Fairway Green: W/ladder racks and tonneau cover: Now for the aftermath: Sold the hood to a local guy I know:

Re: Post Your Ride 88-98 Trucks
that was a cool truck, too. I remember seeing that several times on the boards. Was that hood metal or glass?
And as for my color, it's kinda a medium blue, kinda dark, kinda light, not a dull like most blues, but kinda a deeper, brighter blue. It doesn't look as good now as when I got the truck. Whenever I get the truck repainted, I think it won't see as much offroad use. I just can't wait til I get to retire it from 'active' duty, store it indoors, under shelter at least, and redo much of the truck. Give the ole blue beast an easy more comfortable life, instead of daily driving, and the usual road abuse. Idk. Check out in the linky in my sig, look for some older pictures. Some are digitals from when it was younger, some are scans from the film camera. Some show a darker yet brighter, deeper, prettier blue. I'd like to see bright blue metallic in fresh paint, as I think it's a beautiful color, but I'd like to see it fresh.
