I already got the plastic fan off, but the front clutch or whatever that is won't move


on a side note, anyone know a good way to make the oil fill in the valve cover not look so lame?

It is the type I thought it was, you need a wrench big enough to fit on the hex head of that shaft. It will turn off the opposite way the fan rotates. The whole shaft is the nut.

You will want to use a strap wrench to hold the pulley from spinning. If you don't have one you can take an old serpentine belt and put it in a pair of vice grips after you cut it down.

on you oil fill tube , there are some breather type fill cap that fit into the valve cover or you can remove the tube and screw the factory cap right into the valve cover , but you may have to trim your coil mount bracket slightly. there are several breather type caps on EBAY. well , good luck on your build .

My S-10 had the same fan, what a ***** to get off! I put an electric fan in my truck to get some HP back. I cut the crap out of my knuckles when the nut finally broke free. On my S-10, when facing the front of the engine, the nut turned counterclockwise, but I don't know if the V-8's are the same or not.

Carbon build-up is common in the newer engines (for ALL makes). It's a good idea to run a cleaner through them once a year or so like sea foam and use a fuel injection cleaner fairly often.

The fan comes off fairly easily with a big wrench and a special tool that keeps the fan from turning. Here the local Advance Auto will let you use the tool. You pay for the tool, then return it for a refund. A BFH helps too.

That's actually what I used, it was about $55 to rent it, but you get it all back.

If your looking at the front of the engine, your going to turn it clock wise to loosen it. The exact opposite of Lefty loose righty tighty.

Got a Jegs box yesterday...... MSD is in, and a nice AEM dryflow. I met a guy locally who is building a 6.2 for his camaro for track days at PIR, and he wants my 317's and I want his L92's so a trade is going to happen. My heads and some cash for his. Only problem is one head dropped a valve, and the quote from the local machine shop was about $110 to fix it. Not too bad if that is the only thing wrong with it. Can't wait to get them on tuesday.

Hahah ok so this was my friends dads car, it was on its 3rd transmission, 2nd computer, and it would only run for 25 mins before the battery went dead. Basically they dumped way too much money into this junky Chrysler. So we bought it from him for 200 bucks and had our way with it.

We threw it on the lift and cut the exhaust off and drove it through town to my place. We got so many stares it was awesome.



Drove it through my field until the CV joint blew. End of the fun.



Smashed it up with the tractor a il



Then loaded it up and headed for the junkyard. Im the one driving the tractor.





Got $200 for it at the scrap yard, so pretty much didn't lose any money. Definitely worth it for two days entertainment.

I was debating that, they need to go into the machine shop anyways, so I thought about asking them about some port work, don't know how much can be done. I was also considering milling .25 or so off the bottom to pump the CPR up to like 11:1

11:1...i am not really sure, but is that still pump gas?

i'd talk to some people about getting that high with a CPR...depending on where you live.

i know where i live here, you can get a bad tank of gas once in a while, and something that is walking the line already (like my 383) will ping. if you do it, never have the radio on while your beating on it, and always listen for detonation.

I talked to an engine builder on LS1tech and he has built a motor for his brothers corvette that is running 11:1 or higher (he suggested the milling to me) and said it should be no problem. But my question is, will the stock rods hold up to more comp.? I know I will already be pushing them with my goal of 500 or more HP, and a little more pressure on the rods might be the breaking point.
