Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I spent the morning busting down my old wheels and tires and installing new wheels. It took me awhile because I do my tires by hand and it's pretty hard work dismounting tires from the old rally wheels.

And here I thought I was the only guy left on the planet that knew how to do tires the old way. I've had a manual bead breaker and tire spoons since I was about 14. There have been times I used a bumper jack or jack stand and floor jack to break the bead. It was sure easier before wheels with safety beads became standard. But of course that far back tires and/or inner tubes had a tendency to rust to the wheels! I don't suppose too many of todays tire store employees would even know how without all the power equipment.

My father and I have done it manually too. We done because it was the poor mans way of doing it. It will really give you a one heck of a workout! Gojo hand cleaner worked well for us. Tell you what..... Those Mickey Thompson Hides were one more challenge on my truck and his Rambler American. Both hides have tubes in them. Man I'm getting tired just thinking about it

Same here. Hand cleaner for lube. I built a fixture to use my shop press to break the beads though.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

It's been 1 month and 8 days since I got it.

In that time, I have converted it to 84 front end, all powdercoated and rebuilt.

Got a used engine and trans which I cleaned and refreshed,

Converted the rearend to 72 model 5 lug, ECE lowering stuff, all new brake lines front and rear.

I'd have done it faster but I keep get covered over with powdercoating jobs. I quit advertising at all or even trying to get work but people keep driving up and dropping off jobs just the same.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Well I had high hopes for the day. I got my steel and I was going to cut and tack up my rear frame rails but a co-worker hit a gnarly weld with the band saw and rounded all the teeth over just before I was going to slide my 2x4 up in there to cut. So I set it aside and brought my bed back into the shop and welded up the bolt holes on one side for the 73+ fenders. Put some paint over the fresh grinds and put it back outside.

1stseries55:

A creative solution to a common obstacle. Thanks for sharing.

When installing hood springs, I use a pair of Vise Grip long reach pliers, clamped closed, used as a hook on one end of the spring and stretch it in place. This prevents damaging the coating and allows you to get a good pull on the spring and stay out of harm's way.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

That's uncanny. I have built similar spring stretchers for powdercoating hood springs. Some powdercoating guys can't weld and I can't really see how it would be possible to coat without the skill. Lots of little jigs and fixtures to hold various parts for coating.

Had redid my front brakes and mounted my new front tires the other day and installed the Kugel trans linkage. Took some pics tonite.

I think I will go with a narrow trim ring.

I recently bought a couple different sets of late model center caps after seeing this done on the '67-'72 forum. I see you used standard lug nuts. How did you go about attaching them to the ralley's?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Well today just a min ago i got off work on the coldest day we have had all year so far and let the truck warm up to about 120 130 then took off.......................I got almost home and BOOM.................
Freaking smoke everywhere fluid and sounds all over I couldnt feel my gas pedal felt like it was gone MY HART DROPPED!!!!!

I just realized how much i really love this truck more than any other car or truck in my life!!!!

I was freaking out and sad at the same time plus a lil broke with 4 kids and Xmas around the corner ya freaking OUT!
Also cell phone dont work because phone wont charge my battery so i cant call anybody.......

Pulled over popped the hood cant see too much because its dark And people was passing me
Well lucky me a friend stopped and it seem to be that my new hose on top Popped off the rad and stat housing and was still under the hood so we drive & get water and clamps got it all on & full, then found out my pedal problem was some how the rod behind the pedal got pushed up and my pedal was laying on the floor so i popped it down stuck my pedal up and she started right up man o man what a night slash morning i just had scared the SHEEEEEET out of me!!!!!!

So that being said i put new clamps on my truck today and soon a reflush with better style hoses so i dont go threw this again!

Sorry for the missed spelled words im tired and dont care
