Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

No more flintstone mobile!

Finally able to get back to the truck today...

Took out the last main supports and tilted the cab on its back. Sanded off the black primer from the back and front of the new floor and sprayed some weld-thru primer to get ready for the install. Everything lines up pretty well except for the area behind the gas pedal. I also had to remove the min firewal supports so that the floor would go in easier. Glad I did because there was rust growning. cleaned up and primed now,

All in for now with sheet metal screws... gonna need a lot of work for the kick panel area. I also don't like how the lower A-pillar patch sits... I need to research some pics to see what it looks like correctly installed....

Mike, IIRC, ya may have to take a pie cut in your new floorboard. Seems like there was a little to much metal in the gas pedal area. Nice work, amazing how well it fits, seems like they knew what they were doing...

Hard to believe rust could hide behind that bracket

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

yeah, the gas pedal area doesn't have the same contour as the firewall, other than that it seems very close. Of course I'm missing most (all) of my B-pillars, A pillars and kick panels! Figure i'll get it as close as I can and make everything else fit to it. As long as the doors work then the rest should be ok...

On another note, I couldn't bolt my high hump in. The upper holes on the firewall aren't alligned (1/4" off), i'll try again when the cab is sitting upright...

Easier to jack off of the braces when it is sitting upwright. I used a floorjack in that area to align it. becareful if you roll it onto the firewall as the gussets for the fenders hit first

Mike- the bite that was taken out near the gas pedal wasn't very big. I think Jim also trimmed a bit of the flange from the center out

I'll be cutting the entire center "hump" out anyway, is that the part that you are talking about?

You're rite Jon, it was a very small cut that I made at the gas pedal, the flange on the floorboard was cut to get a better alignment with the factory seam across the floor/ firewall area, just to keep them on the same plane. The hump area was moved around to get it to fit better, didn't have to take any metal out, just moved it for fit. Since Mike is going high hump, he shouldn't have any problems in this area

Thanks Jon for making this great pc. available to us...Nice work Mike

BTW, I think I found some steel headlite surrounds

thanks, this is what happens when you buy a rusted out truck and don't know what you're getting yourself into!

Next it will be a driver when I start!
