Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Man you do some awesome work! I noticed that you are pretty local to me. I'm down in Red Lion. I'm doing a 53 now and it's going slow but steady. Do you know anyone that would be interested in a new repop rear drivers fender? It was ordered wrong and was supposed to be a pass. fender. Thought I would ask since your local and seem to have a big network of friends! Thanks for your build threads they're great! Hope to see ya around sometime. --Jeremy

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

oldman3, Thank you. You could do it. I have seen your builds!

Firstgenfan, Thank you. We will have to check out each others builds since we are so close. As for the fender I will check around. Everyone is always looking for fenders because they are always bent or rusty.

Thanks! I actually sold the fender to a guy that is restoring an AD truck that lives about 2 miles from me. Small world!

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Mr Incredible, 98layinframe, boy it has been a while that I have post. Ken just picked up his frame for his wife's 1947 double duty truck this past weekend. So I will be back onto the truck later this weekend. I have to install power windows in Billy's 48 doors this weekend too. But after that back on the 51 again. Glad I was missed. I have been crazy busy but yes I am still alive!

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

I got tons of question xpickup. Tons! I appreciate your offer and will take you up on it. I just picked up a complete 88-91 Vette IFS for $250 on Saturday. I'm looking into building my own cross member as I used up my truck funds for this year already and I'm getting close to needing a cross member to test fit the 95 LT1 I have. I'm finishing the firewall now and need to figure out how much of a recess and tunnel I need so I can finish the cab repair work. If interested, I can link you to some pics of where I'm at but I don't want to hijack your build.

Talk to ya!

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

No worries and no rush. I think Im going to have to lower my step notch a bit or Im going to lose way too much bed depth. Would love some mandrel bent frame rails but they get really $$$$. And I dont trust my welding enough to use flat steel to make the over axle portion of the frame like you did.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

1972SuperCheyenne, Ok. I will give you the measurement from the bottom of the frame to the bottom of the notch too. When I made the notches I welded the inside of the c first, letting the plates corner to corner( having the edges of the plate showing). Then welded the outside edge and ground them square. Then cut and fit the inside boxing plate and fit it corner to corner and welded it. It is not that bad.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Do you do your welding with a 110 or 220 welder. I have a Hobart 140 and it welds great but was just concerned about holding strength. Im using .120 wall tubing and 11 gauge sheet for fish plates and stuff.
