Well it took a while but I read the complete build. Really great work and after seeing the appraisal, it really is motivational to do things right. Your talents are exceptional.
What I have figured out is I'm gonna get the 65 running and driving and then start a complete build on the 66, Being able to enjoy one while working on the other is grea therapy

Thanks Jeff, glad you took the time to read my story. Hope you learned at least one thing from it. Looks like you have a solid plan of driving one and restoring one. If money is an issue start buying your parts now.

I'm very pleased with his appraisal. There is a lot of talent here on the forum. Y'all can do it as well.

Not unless I'm sitting in it. Of course there is a Hooters in our Walmart parking lot. I have to get the girls around it.

That's funny right there.

We all know appraisals are personal opinions. At least I have a number for it and it was someone elses opinion and not my own.

It's a long story about my valve covers, but want y'alls opinion of my valve covers. I'm not gonna say what I think right now, so it doesn't influence others.

I love your covers.. I think they go with the theme of your build.. very classiy retro..
But you are asking what I would use it would be either a solid alumiun cast maybe ball milled, or retro finned with red painted between the fins or orange to match the truck.

Just my 2 cents.

I like the valve covers. They kind of match the engine to the truck. Orange on the bottom, and silver on top.

Congrats on the appraisal!

As far as the valve covers, I don't think the gray/silver paint looks right given that the headers are coated in a bright shinny silver and the air cleaner is chrome. Too much going on there...JMHO...I would have stayed with the polished covers. If your going to paint them, then do the air cleaner cover and the accesory brakets too.

Can't wait to see it with the hood and moldings on!

The valve covers look slick the way they are..Only thing I would do is fill in the logo and verbage with orange. just my 2 pennies.

i agree that something isn't quite clicking for me...i agree that polished would probably look better unless some of the other accessories/brackets are painted too

Alan,
I was going to try and tell you what I thought.
I would do a two color fill on this valve cover. The lettering all in black and the heartbeat wavelength with a black back and orange inner.

But since I dont express myself too well sometimes, I figured I would show you instead. Please forgive my poor photoshop skills!

I saved the image in stages so you could see different aspects and maybe help you envision something you like better!!

Best regards and good luck!

Re: Project Vitamin C-10

OK, here's the story. The valve covers weren't in the best of shape and I thought about sanding with 1000 and clearing after I sprayed the engraving with orange. I heard from a couple different people that clear will not bond good to aluminum. Not sure if that is true or not. Then I thought about powder coating them the same as the radiator. Which I thought was Bengal silver. The coater told me it was mirror silver on the radiator. Mirror silver is a two coat process he says and cost extra. Then I was going to have the air cleaner done the same as the valve covers. The cost got to $110 and it was more than I wanted to spend. I text him when i got home to tell him I would just paint them myself. He didn't know his brother already started sand blasting them. The color it is now is blasted aluminum with clear. I thought it would be close to the gray on the roof. I was wrong. They did look good off the truck. Once I installed them i didn't care for it. Now I could go back to my original plan, but at this point I would paint them the gray on the roof with orange engraving. I believe the paint will adhere to the powder coat better.

Thanks, i will be using theses covers. I just need to decide what looks best.

I'm still working on the hood when I get the chance. Turn signals are fixed. I agree I don't like much chrome either.

Thanks for your honest opinion, and i have to agree. I might spray the covers first and go from there.

There is a guy in town that does hand lettering. I sent him a pic, but haven't heard back.

In a way I do like them, but it's not the look I'm after. I want the first response from people to be "wow" not "oh". Thanks for the input.

No, not the same color. It was a practice run.

I agree,I'm past the polished look stage. Too much work to get them back.

Thank you so much for the pics. You did a great job. My wife told me to do that and see what it looked like. I would have to use paint software. That wouldn't be good.

i like the valve covers, but i have to agree with some of the others, either chrome or ploished aluminum would look good with the headers and breather.congrats on the 60k thats awesome.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10

I'd vote either orange to match the block (and a stock upgraded look) and keep the chrome air cleaner...

...or paint it the roof color w/ or w/out the orange filling the recess area (more subtle without) I'd recommend to paint the air cleaner the same roof color if you paint them that color. If not, as others have said, there will be too many colors/finishes going on...

I'd even paint the brake booster the same color at that point...but that's just me being ocd...

Re: Project Vitamin C-10

If they were mine to do, it would be the second one I colored for you.
To me the simple black lettering, with the 2 color wavelength looks classy, pops, but does not go over board.
My wife liked the last 2, but to me the lettering with the orange in it was over the top, looked too busy to me.

I wanted you to see them before I voted on which one I liked.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do, versus what you end up doing of course LOL !!!

Ok, I won't tell you...it does get good gas mileage and hauls the boy's baseball equipment nicely...

Alan, I know that you will make the right choice on what to do about the valve covers. You have done such a good job with every thing else on this build. Another thought would be to the valve covers and air cleaner in gloss black with the orange detailing in the lettering. Just another idea to toss around.
