Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

today was our first cold day in Oklahoma. the wind chill was like 26 and the wind was blowing pretty hard. ive been daily driving my truck all week and its been great fun. today i went out in the freezing 6am weather and of course the death rattle fired perfectly but when I started driving my hands were cold and I was thinking I should have brought gloves. it was right about then that I looked down and realized I just installed HEAT! i hadn't even tried the heater yet. no clue if it worked. turned my vintage heat/air/defrost to heat and cranked it up. sucker gets hot and blows hard. it was awesome! grinned all the way.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I got the new calipers, front brake hoses and rear wheel cylinders changed out today. I still have to replace the hose from the frame to the diff, then the system will be ready for bleeding. As long as it's off the ground I'm going to clean up the wheel wells and grease the front end before buttoning it all back up.

I'm anxious to see how much difference there is between the 8" dual diaphragm booster, and the 7" single diaphragm booster it replaced.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

moved the power steering belt to the correct groove in the pulley so it would track straight. leaned it out by an 1/8 of a turn. i think its about right mixture wise. no more heavy exhaust smell on a cold start and no fumes when sitting at a light. its carbureted so it will never be fume free but its good now. drove many miles this week.

Screwed down my shifter boot, then punched holes in my floor mat to secure it on those weird little holding nails on the floor of ADs. Then installed a one-piece carpet floor mat that's removable for cleaning.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Washed my seat bases, then painted them with a poof can down in the wood shop. Wired everything on the engine. Did some plumbing on the heater and A/C lines that required removing the compressor and drilling the intake. I pick up my seats and visors tomorrow!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

adjusted all the belts and changed the bolts on the a/c compressor. I also tightened a couple of bolts that were allowing some rattling in the cab. drove about 30 miles today just running errands and taking the wife out for lunch.

Polished on my grille some. Any suggestions on how to speedup the process on a 69-70 Chevy?

Looks like a couple hundred hours yet, but I've been counting them for some time. I need to re-position the seats, design and build door panels, do a final build on the console, install the windshield (which doesn't fit well), front end, bed, gas tank, steering column/shaft, sound system, finish the wiring and install the carpets. As we all know, there are a hundred other things I'm forgetting. Spring will be here soon!

I ran all over town doing errands, stopped by a good friends sons auto tint place to see if he could do a clear bra on the Beast and the cost. As I was getting ready to leave he commented about how she must be insane when I get on it... so of course I opened the exhaust cutouts got a roiling start and floored it. Damn throttle stuck wide open, brakes didn't help much with the 499 ft. lbs. of torque, so I shut off the key and stood on the brakes... Nice to know I have the 4 wheel disk set up right, stopped straight and short...

Truck is parked until I figure out why the throttle linkage is heavily binding up, must likely a broken motor mount....

It's a '75 Nova front sub, the most exotic parts are the Centric drilled and slotted rotors and Baer "Sport" pads. The hydraulic components are just premium quality OEM replacement parts. Calipers are Raybestos remans and the rear wheel cylinders are new Raybestos. My rear is a Mopar 8.75" with 10" x 2.5" drums so I chose the closest size wheel cylinder to what the Nova would have, but they are .010" larger diameter. The new master cylinder and flex hoses are all NAPA brand. Rounding out the system is a Tuff Stuff Performance dual diaphragm 8" booster, residual pressure valves and a Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve. For a weekend cruiser it's a super simple disc/drum setup which was fairly economical, even with "premium" parts. We got them bled this evening and it has a good pedal. I want to replace the shocks before the tires go back on, hopefully I'll be able to test drive it Saturday...

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I failed to mention the dual 8" booster replace a single 7" booster. It went from 38.5 square inches to 100.5 square inches of area by swapping boosters. It should provide noticeably more power assist

Thanks, Brian! That's the workshop in the basement. Me and the wife built our own house, and I convinced her I had to have that to do the hardwood floors and interior carpentry. Hee! Hee! The wall cabinet on the back wall is a modified Norm Abrams plan.

Spent the day hooking up the A/C lines. Yes, I know “winter is coming”, but it was a job I have been putting off due to the crummy access to the Freon lines in the cab. Now I need to get a vacuum pump and spend a day chasing leaks.

Fitting the seats and console today, which lead to cutting the carpet so it can be sent out for binding. It's a little early for the carpet, but I wanted to be sure I had enough material. I'll end up with less than a square foot of scrap.

SPECIAL THANKS TO MIRACLE PIE CO for reminding me to use butcher/rosin paper as a template (Post #3813). I came close to scrapping my GTO carpet because I cut it in place.
