Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

So the wet north/dry south pattern continues. We are in a drought. You could run that load over anything around here. Nothing to get stuck in and no worries about ruts. You watch, Carlisle truck show will be rain every day

Ssshhh . I want to take the stepper to Carlisle but I won’t if it rains .

It’s very wet here can’t even do firewood the ground just gushes water as you walk around the piles . Forget using the kubota wife is having problems mowing she got stuck three times the last mow . Lawn looks good though but as soon as you go over it it just sinks .

Ok, I'll zip it! I guess my comment caused 1.5" last night. More rain than we've had since April all combined. We were the heavy zone for the thunder showers. I woke at 2am and could hear distant thunder. Within 5 minutes it was close. One flash lit the inside of my house up, then BOOM! right over top and my windows rattled. Got up and read 1.5". I figured it was just another quick one leaving a trace. The map shows a very small area in extreme drought and I'm right in the middle. I did a rare think And put some juice to my grass because riding home I noticed how burnt all the grass in the area have gotten. It figures there was no need. Mother nature finally came through

Too bad about needing a roof. Pretty painful bill these days. I was on a ladder yesterday on the side I have white cedars growing and notices all the dried needles piled in the lower gutter. I left the ladder so I could blast them out with the hose. I reckon Mother Nature might have helped me out there, too, last night

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Since it wasn't my truck I can put it here. Buddy of mine came by with the lower control arms from his 68 and we pressed out old ball joints and new in. He's in a revival of sorts. Took his truck off the road for a restoration six years ago that didn't end up happening. Now he wants to just drive it and enjoy it.

I've heard it said that the next best thing to having a lift in your garage, is having a buddy with one. We put the camaro on it to tweak a rattling tailpipe. I think we got most of it. I am liking that lift. Snapped a cool shot of a couple of his rides with mine when I pulled up.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

That's one thing I miss- when I graduated uni and left my mechanic job. Having a hoist was a joy when it came to working on my own vehicle.

Today I went to the orange borg for some mahogany that I'll use to make a challenge coin display case for my son who is in the USAF. When I got to the register it came up at 1¢ per foot. The cashier asked the supervisor, who checked it out, and said that it is out of the system, so they can't sell it, for even a penny a foot. They told me to take it, free. Bizarre world we live in, eh?

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I had a friend bring a couple loads of crusher fines over to put on the washed out driveway. He accidently did me a big favor while he was spreading the first load, he bumped a tree stump and knocked it over. Today he brought over a tractor and hauled the stump to my burn pile and then smoothed out some of the bigger piles of dirt. I still need to rake out some of it and then he will bring a water truck to wet it down. I will get an after picture but for now here's a before pic.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I experienced weirdness. First was buying gas up at the corner. I prepaid with cash. They have always had a sign on the door saying "no public restrooms" and I get it. I've lived here 37 years and this guy has been there about 15. I asked how he was doing today and he said he was doing well. Ok, well now that I know he's feeling good I thought it would be safe to kid with him, and asked if I could use the bathroom with a big grin. He said "No, we have a fence around back". I said "the see sign says no public bathroom, but I wanted public", grinning and chuckling. The guy standing there thought it was funny. I've been buying gas from this guy for 20 years! He found no humor and started saying how everyone has something to say about that sign... yada yada. As I walked out I said I didn't need to go, I was just kidding around. how uptight!

So I needed to come back in for change and I said I was sorry he wasn't in a joking mood, and I only kidded with him because he was doing well. Otherwise I wouldn't have. I know he recognizes me and I always chat a bit (friendly) with him. He still went on about everybody wanting to use the bathroom and commenting on the sign....

I guess I was too happy for his liking... Sheesh!

Another was driving behlnd a Mercedes SUV that was jamming everyone up, slow, taking part of the second lane, indecisive, and with a "Baby On Board" sign. Ok, I'm driving carefully for your baby's safety, are you? Then hits the brakes, turns right, never using the turn signal. Some people ask of others what they themselves are not able or willing to do. The sign should say "I'm a bad driver yet I have a baby on board and it is totally freaking me out"

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Driveway is still needing a little attention but is looking better. I dug a ditch along the property line to get the runoff to go down instead of the driveway. Without the tree stump to route the water into to the driveway should help alot. Drive is wider now too.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Yesterday the two layers of siding came off. Plans are do away with the last knob & tube, run several more outlets down this side, do away with the "hippy window" in the shower, install two new windows, insulation, siding. Heading to the dump to empty the truck before it gets to hot.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I’ve been a real stoner the last few weeks . Cleaned up around the fire pit and now I get to place some huge blue stone slate that I dug up here a few weeks ago . I can’t dig a hole without hitting it . The pea gravel isn’t washed yet so it looks like dirt . But suppose to get a monsoon here again tomorrow it’ll be nice and clean

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Wiring done. This turned into a total PEX re-plumb. Been putting up with a real slow cold water in the laundry room for years. After the siding came off I saw several drips under the house. The rest is history. I just finished cutting out ALL the old galvanized with the saw-z-all. Tired, but happy! Windows, insulation and siding will take me through the weekend.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Stick with me. There's a back story on this one.

Well I have been griping for some time about how USPS doesn't deliver my packages when UPS and Fedex have no problem. So I complained. Not to anyone around here. Nope. I sent a complaint to the Inspector General of the Postal Service. The email address was on the website so I figured what the hay. I got nothing to lose.

I got the typical "We don't handle these complaints here mumbo jumbo...But it also said, and this is the key "We will forward it to the proper authorities' And forward it they did.

So I'm sitting at my table and a knock comes on the door. I had the gates wide open and the dogs in the dog run because they're installing handrails on my pool so I can do my PT which I'll probably never do but it makes the wife happy.

I answer the door and there's a guy with a box. He starts talking about my complaint. I didn't know what he was even talking about. What complaint?

He explains that he is the Postmaster and he has the package that should have been delivered earlier. He brought it over himself. I'm thinking "What package? (It takes me a while to catch on) It turns out that my wife had gone to the Post Office and they could only find one of two packages that we had received slips for. He found the other and drove it over and delivered it personally. Well knock me down and call me shorty I never expected that.

I told him that I didn't understand how Fedex and UPS can deliver and USPS can't. He told me. Amazon. They went with USPS over UPS and the small rural Post Offices are just not equipped to handle the volume. He said 2 water heaters showed up for delivery last week. The rural P.O's only have contractors in cars. No vans or equipment. They can't do it. I get that. So I'm good with USPS for the moment.

I'm just glad the place was wide open without a dog in sight to prove that there is no problem getting in. I leave my gate open for deliveries and close it at night. My dog is always secured. In fact when Duke was in the dog run he ran up and barked at the FedEx guy and the guy jumped and said " When did you get that?' I told him. He's always been here, you've just never seen him. And you never will unless he's in the dog run.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Duke is a no-see-um.

I have had a few complaints with the USPS deliveries over the last few years too. I was mowing Tuesday when the mail came. I watched a different female carrier put mail in my box at the street and she ran to my front porch and dropped a small box, then ran back to the jeep and moved on. All good except she left the mailbox door down and wouldn't you know it, the next truck to pass created a vacuum and sucked a letter sized envelope out of my box and landed on the ground. I happened to be out there to witness this. My mailbox faces the west so a blowing rain could ruin anything in there. By the way, my mailbox door works perfectly. I see to it. There is just no good reason not to close it.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

All galvanized drain I've seen the problem was sized too small. When galvanized came to be they figured it would stand up to decay better than cast iron. It was the between product ahead if PVC. My place had 2" galvanized running almost level into a 3-4" cast iron stand pipe. Might have even had a length of flexible black plastic clamped in there somewhere. Long time ago now, first thing I changed here. Shower didn't like to drain much

It’s hard to do anything in the garage these days. Even at only 97-deg, no thanks.

I go out in the morning and inside by about 1pm. It was 98º yesterday with a heat index of 105º. Nice 88º today with a decent breeze. I can handle that.

That's about the same for me. The heat and humidity in the ole metal build are getting tough on this old yankee body.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

FEDEX Ground allegedly delivered my new grille from LMC at 10:17 PM yesterday. I say allegedly because I have video cameras up, and there isn't even an indication of a vehicle driving on the street, as they pick up the reflection of the headlights off of things at the very least. Let alone someone in the driveway. Drove around the neighborhood looking to see if it was simply mis-delivered, but didn't see it. I'm going to post a request on our HOA FaceBook page to see if anyone else has video.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

The first 90-deg day in early summer feels pretty hot. But after a few weeks straight of 105-113, 95 feels AMAZING…

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I kinda felt my age today. I applied for Social Security a while back and they finally set me up with a phone appointment. In September. Funny how when they took that money out of my paycheck for decades there was no delay. But when I want some back then I need to take a number. No hurry.

But this conformation letter cracked me up. The font is huge. I guess that they know their audience. Old people.

I put the conformation for my wife's cruise to Mexico next to it for comparison.
I'm not going to Mexico. No way am I going to be stuck on some floating septic tank with my wife and her friends. All the husbands said no so I didn't catch too much heat over that. Power in numbers.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

It's been another unseasonably hot and dry summer up here too. Way behind on rain and in another drought year.
My previous shop was built into a hillside with 3 sides 80% below grade and heavily wooded old growth trees for shade. The roof was a light beige color as well. The shop area was well insulated and even in 90 degree temps, it stayed 72 degrees inside, as long as I kept the doors shut.
My "new" place, the shop building has a dark green roof and receives direct sun most of the day. It gets mid to upper 80's in there, even being heavily insulated now. I gave up trying to work in there in that heat and ordered a mini-split A/C system, but who knows when I will get that installed. It's too damned hot to work on that too..
