Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Finally found a local set of 15x8, 6-Lug steelies.

They came off a Blazer with 30k original miles.

I'm really on the fence about what color to paint/powdercoat for my black swb. I was thinking an argent silver (or something similar, semi-gloss) and the stock 1970 chrome hubcaps with blue bow tie, no beauty rings.

Hopefully the picture will attach:

I'm trying to figure out the same thing...black SWB - what color for the wheels - same setup you are talking about.

Thanks Ned!

I got very lucky, so much timing involved with buying quality parts for these trucks. I looked multiple times a week, the past year or so and these were literally the second set I've seen. Let alone in near perfect factory condition and a great deal.

I've done countless searches and haven't seen this exact setup. I'm wanting to keep the truck factory-ish looking inside/out with the LS3/Porterbuilt treatment underneath.

Deductive reasoning helped, my three options are white, black or silver. White is too much for me against the black paint, black wouldn't have any contrast from body to tire to wheel, so that leaves silver. Just have to figure out what exact silver/finish.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Found a 6.0L and a 4L80e online. Picked it up the other night.

Surprised to see six converter bolts

Cleaned up fairly well for now.

I test fit the headers, installed the water pump, and put the carb and air cleaner on just to see what it looked like. As soon as the torque converter for the Th350c gets here the motor is going in ole blue.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

you are correct! my plans are to eventually remove the ash tray also - basically all of the items that are recessed into the dash will be filled, this will allow for installation of some components I want in my dash and they won't look like they were just Jerry-rigged in there.

Can you give a link to the one you used? I ordered one from Amazon, but it is too big to fit in the stock lighter hole

Mine was too large also, I had to use a "step bit", it's used to cut small holes into larger ones for conduit into electrical panels (I have used them many times) they are about $35 at Lowe's Home Improvement, make sure to get the one that is up to 1-1/8", at least that's what mine was. See if you have an electrician friend, they may have one you could use. Don't try holding a hole saw in place - it won't turn out well (for the truck or you, I have seen people try it). I have several vehicles that I want to add one of the sockets to, so the $35 wasn't a bad deal.

I took a round file to remove the barbs that remained from the bit. It was a really tight fit so it doesn't move around inside the hole, I just got it in there, I started to hook up the wires, but when I started looking at the wiring, it was quite obvious that whoever installed the radio (non factory, i don't think a dealer did it either), there was a nest of wires, a lot of them were cut and hanging loose, so I need to chase them out and see what goes where and remove wires that are not necessary. Nothing can ever be easy!

You may be able to use a small grinding wheel on a Dremel tool to make the hole larger, mark the hole needed then cut, this would also allow you to leave the sides flat so the power adapter is "keyed" into the hole.

Thanks guys!
