Beautiful truck sir. I had one of those back in the day. It was light blue. Enjoy.

Nice looking truck, Paul! My dad had one like that but it was "tree frog" green. He switched the "R" to second spot, "O" to third spot, and filed out part of the "D" to make it a "G". FORD -> FROG.

Not my truck but one my buddy is working on.
Apparently someone broke the 9" housing and gorilla welded it to the point that it warped the mounting face for the 3rd member such that it won't seal.
I machined it back down as flat as possible while removing the least amount of material as possible.

Nice truck Paul .

Today started out with a simple job replace the head pipe donut on the 04 Envoy . Got it apart lots of heat and cussing but none of the studs snapped . Get the donut out it’s all in one piece and wasn’t leaking . Ended up the manifold is cracked . So I ordered one from Rock Auto should be here Monday .

Keep saying I’m not putting any more money into it has some frame rot but if it becomes not safe I’m pulling the 4.2 and front seats for one of my trucks . It’s got 112k miles on it

Great Set-up

We have a couple of guys in the shop that I am Employed at.,
that know the mechanical stuff and issues that would be created in this situation

They can Do It Right.

They know

Then there is the others that
can be caused by welding (fast and furious) with no plan and minimum knowledge of the Mechanical stuff behind it.

I only have so much control at my job,

To keep the 30+ year experience people from making the same mistakes they have made for 30+ years.

Nice truck Paul. That is the last year of Ford pickup that I like. IMO they got to boxey after that. Those wheels look alot like the ones on our '96 Bronco. One of the guys that hangout at Tuesday night Cruise night has a nice pickup with the same style wheel.

Went up to the local ReStore and bought a hall table made of quarter-sawn white oak. Gorgeous piece, but needs repair. I think that it is put together with hide glue, which I'd like to avoid, for a number of reasons.

Nice to see the old car out. How many dates with Pat does this make in the '36 now?

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Decided to put the Envoy back together and just run it with the cracked exhaust manifold . Annoying tick but the header goes way under the firewall and looks to be a huge deal . The frame is iffy on it and I really think this may be its last winter . The new manifold will be here tomorrow so lol just shelf it and when I pull the motor for a future project I’ll do the manifold . The 4.2 will be a nice upgrade in a truck . Only has 112k or so on it

Holy cow Tim, that is a good question. Even if it was only 10 a year that would be over 600.... I have had the car for 63 years and Pat and I just celebrated our 58th anniversary.

Lots of good times in it for sure.

I didn't mean to make you rack your brain, buddy I'm sure the number is up there. The story of you and that car could make a book. I was 5 when you got it

It must have been a day for door work. I put a new door handle on the 98 k1500. What a royal pita. Thank goodness for a couple of good youtube videos on the subject.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I'm buying a '99 Sonoma from my friend. I've already been driving it since the beginning of this year. He's got my '95 Suburban to fix a bad head gasket, so he let me drive the Sonoma. We traded work and he has a fulltime job and a busy life. I'm not concerned since I have something to drive, although many times I really needed the Suburban. We made this deal because I didn't want to pull the heads outside in Jan. It's about done now and I want to keep the Sonoma for a light duty truck that gets good gas mileage.

Now that we confirmed I'm keeping it, I want to go ahead with things I'd like to do to it. First thing is get a fiberglass cap, and I really want one w/o windows. Yesterday I stopped by a place that sells that kind of thing and found out Leer still offers them for the S10/Sonomas. That's nice, so I was going to order one until I found out the price, $2,600!! That really shocked me. I need to find a used one. I had no idea the cost went up that much

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Look around for a few weeks on marketplace and you'll find a good one for less than $500. I think I paid around $450 for the cap on my 2005. White is the easiest color to find of course.

Ok, I also want a truck like yours
I am looking there for sure. The truck is black and I'll paint the cap. I have it in my head I only want a windowless one. I want that commercial vibe while also more like a custom mini-truck look. I plan to lower it a bit and put the factory 5-spoke 96-00 Extreme 16" on it.

I stopped in to that business because they had a used black one on their rack. But it wasn't for the Sonoma/S10s. I just can't believe how much they've gone up. I bought a new Platinum '99 ZR2 and put a new matching Leer cap with all the options on it. That one cost $800. I know it's been 24 years, so I expected maybe double by now. But 225% increase I did not expect. He's selling me the truck for $1,000. I'd have to be crazy, or anyone else, to pay what the truck is worth just for a cap.

This is the look I'm going after. This one belonged to the same friend. I was working on my Suburban at his shop and he let me drive it home, so I had it a couple weeks. I really wanted this one, but when he decided to sell it was when he drove it to Carlisle. It wasn't for sale but someone asked and he let it go

That's a nice looking S10. I bought a '99 new off the lot and put a lot of miles on it over the course of 3 years as I was driving for work a lot then. Used to see them everywhere here in MI but never see them now. Road salt is a killer in these parts.

We have rust, but not like Michigan. I see these all over the place. I see them every day. This one has no rust, 230 thousand something miles. The clutch is about gone, so that's first on the agenda. I may just skip the cap and do a tonneau to protect tools. I'll have my Suburban back soon and that's my 2-seater tool bin/towing/hauling rig. The Sonoma will be for shuttling to my jobs once set up and for going up to see my mom more often. It costs over $100 just to go see her in the Suburban, about a 2 1/2hr drive. I've been wanting a 4-banger light craft to accompany the Suburban for a smart combo. I've been an 8-lugger guy as long as I can remember, like since gas was $.50 a gallon

I drive past a white early S10 longbed that is still clean I'd love to buy on my way from this place I do a lot of work on. It's 2wd, probably 4-cyl. I'd really like to find a longbed 4wd in either style. Can't beat the price on this one, though. I just have to do some work on my friend's place. Heck, I've already had 8 months use out of it without owning it. Talk about easy terms!

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

My son came home for a couple days. My wife did his laundry and washed his Subaru's key fob. So the car would not start, no key. I blew some air in it and got the car started. Moved it in front of the garage and changed his oil. I guess I'm cheaper then the oil change places. Try to start the car again and no go. This push button stuff is a pain in the a$$. I took it apart and dried it out and it works again.

This week and today I put up (3) carports behind the barn for my muscle cars. They keep my 68 C10 company. Now my wife has a place to park out front LOL.
