Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Didn't figure anyone'd be up at this hour! Yeah amazing what you can do with a ole rattle can! Just make sure you cover everything up good. I got some overspray on my seat. Course nothing a lil thinner won't take off. But if I had carpet it'd be bad.

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Thanks Johnathan. Yeah it's absolutely killin' me man. But I just wanna be able to drive it and enjoy it some. Right now waitin on the next paycheck to order the things to put the steering column back together.

Also forgot to mention I replaced the hoses (FINALLY) for the windshield washer. So soon as I hook the battery back up and put some water or fluid in bottle I'll test it out. I have no idea if the pump even works!

That rearview bracket is a classic! Everything looks like it came out really well. Congrats on making that interior super clean!

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Thanks Slick. Well, my gauges/column area will be I guess. Still will have a long way to go. It needs a new dash pad, carpet, seat cover and door panels. Plus a few odds and ends. I got a set of bowtie seatbelts. Need one more set for a middle seatbelt. And on and on. But progress is progress I guess.

I used the excuse to the wife "now that my ride was paid off that I could buy a project" but now the project is costing me more than a car payment. But I am hiding the cost well so far.

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Will you be covering the door panels yourself? It's a easy job and the Misses will see how much $$$ you are saving by doing all this work!!

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Thanks guys! Yeah she knows that it saves, and appretiates it and wishes we had the $$ to do it all right now, but we also want our house built and my garage so I have the place to really tear into it.
The door panels is something (and seat cover) I'm still trying to figure out and decide on. Should I buy plastic repops from LMC? Buy original style skins and reupholster myself? Or find something else somewhat custom skins/doorpanels and seat cover set and put them on myself? Keep in mind I'll be doing a grey interior. *gray?

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Got a week off coming up. And a bunch of parts ordered and on the way. Plan is to get the tranny pulled, cleaned up, and new gaskets/seals, put back in. Then put stock springs (at least rear) on it. New balljoints, tierod ends and start drivin' her again! I'm sur there's a LOT more than that to do, but you get the idea. And I'll be postin' keeping you guys updated!

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Nice! A week off always helps. Are the repop panels what you want for the interior? Are you going a little more "custom" in the interior or will you try to maintain the stock look? Either way it will look cool!

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Slick the thing I don't like about the repop panels is they're just a painted to match plastic shell (from what I understand) from LMC. My truck is definitely gonna be custom when I'm done with a mix of stock parts to keep the original feel. So I may look into getting something made. Just have to find a reputable upholstery shop around here. But I'm not there yet anyway. Just dreamin, getting some parts now so that I already have them when I do my full ground up restoration.

Definately gonna take some elbow grease. Wish I had a sand blaster! Now if I can just convince my wife to let me order my disc brake kit! I'll be in good shape soon as I get the tranny pulled and that darn seal fixed. Anyone wanna come help?

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

I think you should get a siphon feed blasting gun for $35 and build your own cabinet for another $35 and save yourself a LOT of headache

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Hey guys. I've not been on in a while. But........I have a good news, well and bad news.

The bad news: Copper has been sitting and I've not done anything else to it.

The GOOD news: We are currently "sale pending" on a new home (new to us). So Copper is gonna get a garage and I'll finally get to start a REAL restoration on this thing. The house has a 2 car attached garage, and there's a seperate 1 1/2 car garage that'll be my workshop.

I can't wait! Keepin' my fingers crossed! Then "Slick Copper's Build Thread" will really take off. I'd like to do a 1 year turnaround, but that's probably shootin' for the stars. Keep posted. I'll get pics as soon as I can. Of house, garage, Copper in the garage, etc.

Sorry. The sad thing is I really haven't even started the full build! Soon as the garage is somewhat in order I'm gonna start a full tear down and rebuild. But, now that you're caught up all ya gotta do is click on last page and you'll be right here! Congrats on your house.
