Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I got the doors on the cab now! Of course the great primer I used is taking for ever to dry. Due to my lack of space, they couldn't sit where I had them to dry for a week. So when my brother placed them against the wall, what ever they were touching eventually smeared the primer. Nice huh? When I flipped the RH door to edge it, the boxes I sat the door on stuck to the out side skin. So now I've decided I will be completing some body work and just painting the truck. Fun fun. I did purchase new filler primer too. This old stuff is not for Iowa.

The other day Mathew (Brothers69C10) and I took my radiator support and inner fenders to get blasted. The guy called the other night and said he had them done. I had Mathew go pick them up since it was supposed to rain. They turned out nice. I have some rust to repair on the inner fenders, but not too bad.

Thanks Joe. 6.0 parts do get pricey.

Call 967-4125 and ask for Bob. It is Pinkerton sand blasting in Altoona. He only charged me $40 for the support and two inner fenders.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I hung the LH fender the other night. Let me know what you think of the rear of the wheel well opening. It looks to me like the fender needs twisted to be in line with the body. What do you think?

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

just a question as my truck is too rotted to tell, did the rocker panels always sit in much further than the door and fender or is it just the angle of the picture.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I think I need to adjust the door some more. I hung the doors my self the other night. Plus this cab has had rockers installed on it so who knows how good of a job they did installing them.

I gotta say, I am picking up A LOT of body work tips from following your build! These are some things I need to watch when its time for re-assembly!

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I tried adjusting the door in, and I moved the fender forward so I could pull the bottom out some. I think it looks a little better now.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Tonight I finally got the courage to install my head liner and new trim. I was nervous because I didn't want to break the trim, and I didn't want my head liner falling down. I used some heavy duty spray adhesive, sprayed the inner roof panel and the back side of the head liner, then let it set for about 10 minutes. I honestly think letting it sit was the key. I pushed the head liner to the cab and it stuck pretty much right now. The last time I tried it, the headliner barely stuck to the cab. But last time I only sprayed the head liner and allowed no curing time. I also installed my sun visors. Progress is progress right?

I also dug out my best cowl panel and set it on to see how things were lining up. So far so good, I think.

Are you gonna start a build thread on your 76 CC? I looked for one but couldn't find it.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I might re-start one. I'll find the original one. I'm hoping to start the rework in about 2 months. If the lift and wheels and tires sell, it might be sooner. We'll see.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Some more progress. I put the radiator support back on and bolted the fender back on so it would be solid while pulling the dents out. I'm using my Matco stud gun and body hammers to pull these dents. I try to use a hammer and dollie when I can get one in there. Here's some progress pics.

Here's one in the upper roof area.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I went to my local 67-72 parts guy to purchase a new RH fender to save me some body work time. However, when we pulled the only one he had in stock out of the box, it was not right. On the lower portion of the fender where the body line comes off the wheel arch and goes to the door , the line was crooked and the body line was off and it had some dings in it. He had some repairable OE fenders so I got the best one he had that I could see for sure was an OE fender. I have to fix some rust from the normal battery acid drip on the lower cup, but it's better than the RH fender I currently have. Dang, no cutting time on this one!

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

No real progress, but I did score some 99 up 8 lug chevy wheels off of the local CL. I'm going to take them and get them polished next week, then put them on. I also forgot, a few weeks back I met Eric, Toomuchstuff, in Mn and picked up some sweet Longhorn upper mouldings. Thanks again Eric!

This weekend I was busy working on customer trucks so I had a couple guys start removing the bed sides from my donor bed. They almost got it torn apart and only a few bolts are left. Yee haw!

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Yesterday I did go pick up a new fender and more goodies for the truck. Parts keep piling up, but there just isn't any time for it. I highly doubt it'll be making the All Truck Nats next weekend.
