Re: Ian's Tennessee Honey '64 Short Box Step-side - England

I can't believe it's more than a year and a half since I last updated my build thread. Work has been progressing slowly and lockdown has created a bit of time but here in the UK not good availability of parts. So the last time a posted the truck looked pretty much like this.

Name: truck move2.jpg
Views: 275
Size: 48.6 KB

Brakes are now complete, rears rebuilt

Name: rear brake3.jpg
Views: 275
Size: 83.1 KB

And fronts 'blinged up' a bit

Name: front brake2.jpg
Views: 274
Size: 41.1 KB

The bedsides had the usual rot where the wood meets the metal, I couldn't decide if I should repair or replace but the times scales for delivery of bedsides to the UK were so long that made my mind up for me, repair it was

It was very much the same story with the tailgate, I removed the rot from the lower sections

and split a piece of 1 ¾ " tube to repair the top and bottom

and gave it a quick coat of paint

the funny thing about Covid, it's really messed up my sense of time, it seems like 6 months since I last posted anything but it's actually 16.

Anyway, I have been making steady progress so here are a couple of pictures.

Great color. Weren't you putting the fuel fill on the right side previously?

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments,

Rocknrod - did move my filler to the right side, it ended up in the rear fender.

I just copied the original cab hole

and then used the original filler neck and rubber seal

Re: Ian's Tennessee Honey '64 Short Box Step-side - England

I've been laid up for a few details, self-isolating before a minor surgical procedure. So I took the opportunity to start my inner door panels.

I sanded both to remove to loose paint and provide a sound surface for the vinyl

applied the vinyl using contact adhesive

and got it fitted using fresh hardware and handles

Thanks everyone, the procedure went well and thankfully it was nothing too nasty.

I was going to post some pictures of my lastest 'project' but realised i hadn't posted pictures of the bed (which was the reason for the project). so here are a couple of pictures of the bed

Re: Ian's Tennessee Honey '64 Short Box Step-side - England

That cover is lovely.

My S10 has one, but they stopped making them.

I would even buy a good, used one if I could find one to fit the truck.

Right now it is between being a liability and a good thing, held on at the cab side with cable ties a previous owner deemed good for fighting cold weather shrinking.

If only they had not stopped making them…….

Very nice job Ian.
Haven't checked out your build in a while. Everything you're doing is well done and innovative. I really like the gas filler and door panels ideas. The bed cover looks good and the Tennessee Honey logos on the doors look great.

Keep up the good work and try to stay from those doctors.
