Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Here is a quick update..
Pic #1 are of the new calipers I got in. They were supposed to be bare when ordered. (after about 3 weeks they called and sent these for the same price)
I picked them up from (Performance online) dual piston design.
Pic #2. Rotors and calipers sitting together.

I know the "Bling" of the calipers is a little much for this project but they didn't cost any extra...

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Back to the Build...
Pic #1. The passenger side molding in progress, still need to do some trimming at
the bottom transition.
Pic #2. I also picked up a 1 piece headliner it is made from ABS plastic..
I shopped around for a bit to get the best price $140.00 for the piece.
Might be a bit pricey to some but very little trimming and it was in...
It has a leather texture on the face of it. Simply paint it to match you interior..

Nice work Mark. Easy headliner deal...Rod Doors use to have something like that though I believe they went out of business.

Like the calipers. Did the package come with mounting brackets?

Looking forward to more updates.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

A bit of an update..

Pic #1. If you remember me saying I didn't like the rounded edge at the bottom of the garnish molding, so I squared it off on both so the lines look better.

Pic #2. The molding has some larger than desired gaps along the dash so I will address this next. Again using 1/8" round bar to clean it up...also the red piece is a mockup of the center cover I'll make..

Pic #1. another view of the drivers side..

Pic #2. Starting to get the bar tacked in place..
I will use the Tig to do my final weld. (I will also keep the moldings screwed down in place while welding and cooling stages to keep from moving)

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

came out nice, too bad so many people will miss subtleties like this. All apart of the process though, some stuff gets noticed and the feedback feels good, other things overlooked and as long as it suits your mind, that is the payoff.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Last pic of the drivers side..

Pic #2. (not very clear) is of the center cover.
This is welded to the passenger side molding on the backside and basically holds the drivers side down so no need for a fastener..

Till next time..

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

This is an Idea I had in my head.....

Rather than using the stock rear view mirror arm and mount I wanted to make my own to play along with the rest of the interior..

Pic #1. The template for the mount plate. (this will cover the gap between the upper molding and screw into both sides)

Pic #2. after I transferred to metal...

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Here is the the upper plate after drilling and also after they had been cut and welded together to fit the molding...
I used 18 gauge metal for the upper plate..

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Pic #1. So after I did all the work making the first one it felt a bit flimsy so I decided to make a new one from 1/8"
This time it was one piece (I bent it to match the first piece) transferred to the 1/8.

Pic #2. The final look of the upper plate...

Onto the arm..

Mark...
