Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
BBEEP, That looks great. I would love to do it but I am trying to be able to drive mine this summer unfinished. I am going to be pressed for time so at least no for this mod at least now. I love the look. That is going to be an awesome ride!

Congratulations on just clocking over 56,001 views BBEEP. It's a great build. So interesting and very adventurous. Certainly not for the faint hearted!

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
Nixed the idea of painting from below the windows inside up and over the fiberglass headliner. I think it would look good, but create a tin can effect from my stereo . . . I am still going to make a fiberglass headliner while the top is off, but I will upholster it.
(If anyone would like one while I am doing it, let me know. The guy is charging me $250-300) Probably mid January. |

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
Mounted the running boards last week. Shortened them about 1/4 inch on each end so they wouldn't rub on the fenders. They are also raised about and inch & 1/2 so they are flush with the body--no gap. Interesting thing, we didn't use the stock running board brackets: from the bottom of the Envoy frame is almost exactly the same height from the ground has the boards. Just used square tubing.
(and it is sitting up in the air in the front on jackstands, in case you're wondering . . .) Last edited by BBEEP; 01-16-2012 at 07:29 PM. |

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
I might have some metal ones laying around as I used the plastic vintage air ones. I could use a driver side interior window trim (non vent window) if anyone is intrested in doing some trading....I appoligize in advance if I'm bracking any forum rules (:

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
The factory, or even vintage air, would still need to be modified to fit the Envoy venting. I have $26 in the whole 'ducting'.
As much air as the newer system pushes through, I don't think I will have a problem defrosting the windows . . . |

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
That'll probably work out great....just hope they don't whistle like they sometimes do in the vac...but that's usually from the greater air flow and stuff getting stuck in them..

Might try 60's VW fan shroud to head tin duct, it flexible metal.

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
what did you think about those wipers? install pretty straight forward? i saw an article on them a while back, they looked pretty nice.
i may be doing a frame off with a friend on his wife's 50 ford truck, thought about using them there. custom classic trucks has a task force, 3'' top chop in their current issue, looks good too.

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
OGRE, wipers were very straight-forward. I used Raingear in my 48 GMC Panel and they work very well, but you have to modify the cowl-vent handle. With the Envoy firewall, dash, defrost, etc that style or original wouldnt work. Didn't like the escutcheons(?) and had to fabricate some. They are adjustable from about 70 to 120 degrees if I remember right.
A friend of mine has used them on three completely different rigs and loves 'em. I haven't wired them yet. Did you notice the wipers were moved out about 3"? This kit allowed that. Had to make room for my 'hi-tech' defrosters . . . |

Very nice!
But im pretty sure you've been saving up these pictures for a while just to drop them all on us at once to make it look like you work really fast and to make us look bad...

Shannon, You are certainly right about the amount of work. Guessing about 40 hours by the time all is said & done. I think it gives the effect of chopping the top, but I don't do windows!! |
