Well I scored this yesterday . At a dealers it's amazing what goes in the metal skip . Rian was proud of me . Last time it was a tow bar for his truck this time it might be a rear bumper for Kerry

Well yesterday I got a call from a customer, that I had previously done the adaptions to his car . He informed me that it was going back to the dealers to be exchanged for a new one . As it was now three years old and the lease was up . After a chat he informed me that the supplying dealers had booked the adaptations with another company and he wasn't very happy with there service . I have done his last three cars for him, so he asked if I would remove the old hand controls as he may need them for a project . The electric handbrake fitted to the car he didn't need so if I removed it I could keep it . So I removed the unit and put the car back to standard . Once I had finished I had a chat with Rob the owner and told him about Russell's play station controls . It looks like he may have a new use for the hand controls I removed after all . Looks like I may be building another play station seat again
This is the electric park brake I removed the plan is to fit it on the truck so no more knee nocking and my polished steering coloum will look nice and neat

Well today's job was to go to the local Nissan dealer and fit the hand controls to Russell's new road and track car . It's a Nissan GTR NISMO . If only I could get away with putting the engine in the back of the van for the truck .

I have driven a GTR before Don as I had to take it to our work shop, that's about 80 miles away. What you have to realise is that when we do adaptations at the dealers they are on brand new cars , and when you weigh up the risk of taking them for a spin against what you earn ie $300 for fitting them, against say a stone chip in the front screen or worse the paint it's not worth it . We get a lot of work because we go to the dealers to do the job eradicating the risk of them having to drive it to our workshop for the work to be done . They like us have to weigh up the risk factors as well . You have to think how busy London and the South East is and the state of the roads, with just sheer volume of traffic to see the reasoning behind it .

I'm not a fan of Japanese cars but this is one sick car. A friend at works Brother in Law has one. All wheel drive plus turbo. Lots of fun. I can't imagine driving one with only hand controls though.

Well today I had to go and fit a hoist in the back of a Ford Explorer (kuga) in the UK . Once I had finished the job I called George , as he only lived a 15 minute drive from the job . Now let me explain who George is . When I used to manage a car body repairs, George was one of the employees that had been there longer than anybody else and with a wealth of experience . Being retired for over eight years now he spends most of his time playing in his blue grass band and repairing string instruments , including making banjos that he plays . So when he offered to repair my front grill I was very pleased . So I called in to see how he had got on . Well all I can say was wow most of the big dents had been knocked out and he was starting to work on the smaller ones . While I was there he also found an air chisel to give me . He has already given me an air sander , an electric rattle gun, an air saw and best of all the electric nibbler as seen in earlier posts
And no he wasn't using the air chisel on the grill

In my business, 25 years ago when I started out apprentices had to learn the ropes with no pay involved, lots of sweeping, mopping, and cleaning first… then off to the drawing and tracing, then we even learned needle making… most new tattooists nowadays wouldn't know how to put a needle grouping together to save their own lives., Rant over… Enjoy and glad to see the grille shaping up...

Quick road trip this evening after work to collect some eBay wins for Grizz and Martin as the seller was closer to me than either of them and shipping was expensive.
I’ve roped them into helping me do a few jobs on my truck this weekend so I’ll deliver them to Grizz’s place when I pop up there for a C-10 working party on Saturday morning. The seller was a really nice guy called Mike who happens to own this beauty. He’s not on here (yet) but I’ve told him what a cool and friendly place this is so hopefully he’ll sign up and we will see a bit more of his ’66 truck. Anyway, boxes of goodies on the way to Martin and Rian…………. |

Wrapped up, new bolts, assembled and packed away.
Not bad for an amalgam of Jeep Cherokee and Mercedes A Class tow bars. Remember the kart frame I bought last year? Meet my crashed 2005 Honda CG125 with only 14k miles, and a bent, buckled front end. Think marriage or Frankenstein. Bought off Martin's step son who crashed it at recovery/scrap value, it will be stashed in the garage till the right time. Today was booked at my place for Kerry, Disasterbus and Martin to come over so we could do some jobs to Kerry's Patina 64 Short Stepper. Kerry had picked up our spares earlier this week including my pair of expensive but on inspection really good vent or quarter windows. Today he swung by Martin's place to pick up the little buckled Honda for me on their way over here. So when they got here, I had Kerry reverse his truck and the bike down the drive, then we all had a cuppa tea and a chat, followed by unloading the bike and all the parts n bits Kerry and Martin had brought along. One of the planned jobs was to weld in the rear roll pan bought at the NHRA Swapmeet recently. But before that happened Kerry needed to try out the Ford side step that Martin had managed to rescue from a skip a few weeks ago as a potential rear bumper. As it was before. A lot to be said for car ramps. Something useful from Ford. Some cutting, twice...... Got the bumper to size and gave Martin some toys. Modifying Kerry's straight six, which is soooooo sweet !! Later on we were joined by MercDan and his petrol head son George, Ian our former housemate, and Mickey next door were all here. Ian's main job was to do all the cooking, he is an accomplished "Tong Master" and managed the BBQ brilliantly. Through the day, we were joined by Ta2Don traveling across America, so everyone did a Hallo to Don here. Don and JoJo doing backseat driving duties. Somewhere along Interstate 81 in Salem, Virginia. Later, passing a Tennessee flag, about an hour West of Knoxville. Just love technology...... In the mean time, Ian carried on with the cooking duties. At some point we all poured into the house and scoffed ourselves stupid on three types of sausages, spicy chicken wings, pork belly, chilli chicken breast strips and rolls..... A proper mans BBQ. After lunch we carried on with various jobs, electrical mainly, Martin sorting a load of bad connections, and fitting new switches in the cab etc. Kerry fixed and fitted the rear bumper. And finally the highlight of the day........ New lights under the bumper as well.

Well my day started at 7am getting Michael's bike ready and the vehicles out of the way for Kerry to turn up at 8am . Rian had asked me what we were going to do with it , as Michael had passed his motorcycle test on the Wednesday. I had gone and collected him a bigger bike on Thursday , due to the rules after passing his test he is able to progress to a larger bike . So there was no point in mending the small Honda . Rian wanted the engine for his cart frame so Kerry being the nice bloke that he is and passing my house on the way to Rian's had agreed to collect it for Rian . These trucks do come in handy
The replacement I collected Kerry reversed onto my drive ready to load. The damaged little Honda Bike all loaded up ready to take to Rian's house Once we turned up at Rian's house Kerry found it a little tighter to reverse onto his drive than mine After getting the Crome side step out of a ford main dealers skip it's amazing what can be achieved . The little lights fitted to the rear I had purchased at the swop meet earlier in the year looked so good on the back of Kerry's truck, that he twisted my arm to sell them to him , as they looked better on his truck than mine . So it's back to hunting for something to fill those bumper holes .
