It's great for us at home garage painters. It a turbine that offers you continuous, warm, dry, oil free air to your gun and is a genuine HVLP set up. It transfers 90% of the paint to the vehicle, in other words, the over spray is very minimal. There are a bunch of manufacturers for these kind of units. It's great because fir $800 you don't need a big shop compressor and expensive gun to spray your own car at home. These units make it easy for anyone to spray your own car and get a great finish

Kim, I surprised you didn't mention it looks like the truck was going to slide off the concrete as you mentioned about the shelves some time back. lol.

Dubie, I don't think I read what your plans are for the finish?

Once the entire truck is in black, we will do some body filler work but leave some of the rough character on this body. Then the diamond blue metallic will go over top of the black Ned then we will patina the finish and do some aged pinstriping on it

I hope to get the blue sprayed within a couple weeks, but we will be busy building a new floor frame for the raised bed floor and then getting the entire box into epoxy this week. I'm itching to get to the patina process!!

Thanks guys. It's nice to finally be getting some progress under our belts again.

This HVLP turbine is a god send when spraying your own vehicle at home. Literally next to no over spray and I would say at least 95% of the primer was transferred to the surface. I kicked on my exhaust fan just to get rid of some fumes in the shop, because there wasn't any paint clouds floating around the shop. I'm very impressed with this turbine set up

I really like the warm air from the spay rig. That should help a bunch this time of year.

No progress from this week yet. I had to take a couple evenings to get some airbrush work done. It's what pays for my other hobbies, so I've been working on this 26" x 30" sign for a guys shop. I should have this one done tonight, then we can get back to the truck

I had my son out in the shop today learning his to spray epoxy primer. Now we will let the bed cure for a couple days and get to spreading some filler

Curious about the epoxy primer. Keep in mind I know SQUAT about painting a car but I went back and looked and you sprayed it over whatever combo of prior paints were on it.

You don't have to take it back to bare metal to use epoxy? I thought the point of epoxy was to bind it to the bare metal. How do you really know how good/bad the different paints are holding on? Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing just trying to learn.

I suppose I thought if going over prior unknown paint you had to use a sealer of some type? And what I've always read is to stay with one manufacturer's products from the metal up, is this an overblown thing or what?

By the way, just how big a pain is it to clean the gun before the paint catalyzes in it? What solvent do you use? Just acetone, or something else?

The epoxy I used can be used as a primer or a sealer. I reduced it to act as a sealer to bring the entire body into a uniform color. Now we can do body filler, sand it and spray more sealer over top before we spray the top coat color. All we did was sand the entire truck with 180 grit so whatever paint or primer was on it had enough tooth for it to dig in.

That is the same sprayer as I have bud. I am looking at buying a second gun so I can have one for primer and one for base coats. The only gun clean up is rinsing the cup out with lacquer thinner, then run some brought the gun and hang it up. A VERY user friendly system for anyone.
