Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
well.... i bought it. 2002 6.0 H.O. LQ9 w/ 100k!! and a 4L80E w/ 67k!!! HUGE PROPS TO LARRY AT SPECIALIZED PARTS PLANET! YOU ROCK MAN!
what sold me was i looked in the cab and on the windshield was a oil change tag from a caddy dealership that said oil change due 9/23/09 or 100 something miles and the oil that is in her looks BRAND NEW!! he's going to bolt everything together and including the returnless fuel rail from an '04 up ls motor and egr less exhaust manifolds and a factory plug for the intake egr outlet on the intake (i think) flex plate, converter, and spacer for the upgraded tranny. the warranty is 6 months from the day i drive it over there to show them no matter if its a year from now or tomorrow. every thing is covered from coil packs, a/c compressor, to o2 sensors! i'm getting everything from the radiator all the way back to the exhaust y-pipe. including the dbw throttle pedal!

Yeah, I forgot to reply to the second one, and just now replied to the one you sent saying you got the mota.
If things get tricky for ya, just download Skype, then we can talk for free in real time to solve any issues!! Actually, that's not a bad idea. A cheapo $25 web cam and Skype could help a lot of guys out if someone else has a solution.......

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Nice menace you scored on that one it look very clean I had used one of these before they can be fast with bolt on's and a tune
I was looking for same setup until i found the 6.2 with 6l80e its like the newer style of your setup. Vortec Max + 4l80e = Congrat's and now get to work |

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
alright guys, the motor/trans is ready for pick up. i went out and checked everything out. also snapped a few pics. she cleaned up beautifully!!
tomorrow i'm going to find a way to get it home. i have the next 4 days off so i can take everything apart and start detailing and painting everything. i have to make a list of what i need and what was supposed to be included in the deal that i didnt see. (returnless fuel rail, non egr exhaust manifold on pass. side, tranny dip stick, and i think thats about it.) wonder if the block says 6.0 anywhere besides behind the bell housing and how can i make sure the tranny is a 80e?

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
right on! thanks Trav!
been thinking... i'm going to try and smooth out and polish the valve covers instead of painting them. everyone paints them. might try to polish the fuel rail too. i think that will look sick with the s&p headers on there. wheels are turning! wanna do something with it thats clean and unique but not over the top and 'too much'. dont be shy guys! throw'em out there...

I think you should keep the Cadillac engine cover, to give it some class. Then again, I am a little biased. Congrats on the purchase though, Dennis.

I am with you Jonboy. I have seen some that look very cool, you can custom paint it and it makes it look so clean. Let me see if I can find some pics..

Definitely keep the engine cover. Sand it slick and paint it body color.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
A Big to you man!
I know this is big, given the issues you've been going through Im truly happy you could get this part done. Slow and steady is fine, just keep us in mind and document it well, take A LOT of pictures. Thanks to you and Bob, i've decided to do a 5.3-5 speed out of a newer silverado for my '82 C-10. It will be spring before I start shopping for a drivetrain, but I still can't wait. Way to go guy.
