Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Aiming for some Truck Time over the weekend...

Still recruiting as well, Spotted this one at a local Parts store while running errands... Stopped and introduced myself, handed him a card pointing out the Website...

Got to meet Tim and his recently acquired Short Stepper this morning... He was getting new Wiper blades and having the parts store scan the interior paint so he could finish the bed... P.O. had redone the front cap and interior the same color, Tim's truck is sporting a 327 w/ Floor Shifted 3 Speed...

Have a Great Weekend Guyz and Galz!!!

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Truck Time Tomorrow!

Following Da Bears game today, I called Jeff (Da Bears Da 1) to talk football...

After getting off the phone, I was able to do more recruiting...
I spotted this Beautiful '63

Followed him to his destination, and introduced myself... Bobby has this '63, bought it with 55,000 original miles, cleaned it up and has put a little over 2000 more miles on it... Bobby drives a truck for a living and doesn't get alot of wheel time in the 63... He was kind enough to take a few minutes to talk... He popped the hood and fired up the 230 that ran smooth as silk, He even laid a quarter on the valve cover, the coin never moved...

Close up of the 230...

Laterz...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

No real update for my truck build...

Had to wait for the Son, the Vovlo Owner to get a day off work... Today was the day...
Plans, replace te clutch in the 81 242 DL...
Weird chatter and noise upon take off, my brain immediately went to clutch once rear-end bushings were inspected...
Gotta learn how to look a bit further when inspecting...

After getting the tank up on stands... I crawled under, started unhooking the clutch cable and planning subsequent steps when my eye was drawn to the carrier bearing...
I'm not an engineer, but am still scratching my head over the need for a 2 Piece Driveshaft...
Found this rubber bushing the Carrier bearing rides in...

As you can tell, parts of this bushing have decided to go missing!
This was allowing the entire driveshaft to flex in any direction around 1 &1/2 to 2 inches... needless to say we found the source of the weird noises upon take-off...
We also found a very worn u-joint at the front of the rear shaft...

New Clutch will be stored until needed...

The only thing I accomplished with the Truck was rolling the chassis across the driveway to make room on the small concrete pad for the Volvo... Not quite the number slide puzzle Bomp refers to, but moving stuff around nonetheless!!!

That's a lot better than replacing the clutch. Now it's truck time.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Thanks Guyz!!! Plans are for some serious Truck time this coming weekend...

and on the plus side, the temps are only supposed to hit around a high of 80... Easier to get this old guy motivated when the sweat doesn't start pouring as soon as I step outside... Man I need to build a garage...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Still Recruiting...
Meet Don, a local Truck guy who says, "I did alot of things wrong with this one.." Pointed out the Forum and he said he'd check it out, seems he has another one he is thinking about building...

There's a sweet custom 71 with an LS1 in the background... This was at a Show & Shine at a local Church this morning...

Sure wish I could've hung out all day, but gotta work to fund me truck addiction!!!

It's fortunate that housing was discovered before the carrier bearing detached violently. Weather has changed here too. Went from two months of 90's to 50's - 60's! Time to get the snow tires ready!

Nice pics.

Jeff looks like a succesfull cardio thoracic surgeon.

I had a good chuckle as the bear theme is quite heavy in your last post..... DaBearsDa1, Grizz, your Bears T shirt.

Glad you enjoyed the bits and I guess the umbrella hat can be usefull.
