Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
I have the frame mounted master, power booster and brake pedal. Fixed my brake problem(after two years of fooling around) I installed new brake lines to the rear and added a pressure relief valve. I opened the proportion valve all the way and put more pressure on the front disc's. I then installed a vacuum reserve tank and voila!!, brakes work.

After 9 years of messing with cars I finally bought a one-person brake bleeder / diagnostic kit. One of the best tools I've picked up: brakes are now bled, truck is back on the road.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
I finally swapped tires and pulled the truck out of the barn. It hasn't been out since before my daughter was born and she's turning four this summer. I spent a couple of hours washing it and taking note of the signs of aging, then left it out in the air all day before parking it back inside. I need to bring it in for state inspection and do some tuning. I truly hope to drive it this summer.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
finished up weather stripping the windows, putting in new latches and strikes on the doors, new door rubber, installed new glass ( dropped the old glass when I was taking it apart and put a crack in it) Now it doesn't sound like a handful of nuts and bolts going around in the dryer, that always endears me with the wife when I forget to take the spare ones out of my pockets before laundry day. It now sounds like a truck! Installed a headliner while I was at it! Busy couple of days

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Got the front end back together (finally) and drove it around the block. It steers a bit better with a rebuilt steering box, new pitman arm, drag link, steering arms, straight tie rod, and modern style tie rod ends.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Looks outstanding, Roger. Congratulations!
Since it's a single stage do you plan to color sand and polish or will you leave it as is? Doesn't appear to have much orange peel, does it up close?

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Thanks guys!

I does not have much orange peel. I did get a little around the rear window on the back of the cab but the rest has very little. I think the Iwata gun and the extra reducing helped me get it pretty darn smooth for single stage. I used a slow reducer too and I think that helps some. I did get a few dust nibs. I'm not intending on doing much color sanding. At most I'll just knock off the dust nibs with 1500 and run the polisher over it. Last edited by roger55; 05-22-2015 at 08:48 AM. |

I took a couple of close-ups today. You can see a little peel in there but there just isn't much. |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
57 swb. I installed my a/c. I put the under dash unit against the back cab wall(it did not look good and stuck out to far under the dash), between the bucket seats. I would rather have it blow cold air on me, however it cools the cab. I prefer to keep the dash open and not try to stuff the a/c under the dash is why I went with the under dash unit.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Softpatch,
Looks like you've got your work cut it for you - no pun intended. Roger's green truck IS freaking nice but yours can look just as good. Here on this board you'll get lots of encouragement and good advice. Some of the best I got from Bam(Kabwe) telling me to just keep working at it. Your skills will get better bit by bit, and incredibly mine have. I'm a total hack compared to Roger and Bam and a lot of other guys here but my work is satisfying me. My truck has new metal where it needed new metal and I'm not covering up crap with filler so I suppose that's all that really matters. Start that "Patches" thread, we'll be looking for it!
