Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?

I got the lift complete and it is working great. Yes that is a 86 corvette that I cut in half and set on the ledge above my tool room. It was a flood car from hurricane Harvey that I got for $200.00

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?

good bye sticky square body steering whee in the K1500 Burbl!!

it was actually still oozing in my hands when I pulled it out..

I figured I'd try one of the new repops from classic and it look, feels, and functions great!

whole job only took 2.5 beers :p

I have random puller parts n pieces but I went ahead and bought a new kit and turns out they sent a gearwrench brand that's very hardy

the horn button came with a broken tab but the nice folks there are going to send me a new one gratis

I have one thing to share that having owned a couple of square bodies and 67-72 as well as pulling a few columns and wheels, I did not have committed to memory that the white plastic spacer in the base of the wheel pocket is for the square body and not needed in the 67-72.. I struggled with that for a minute as the old wheel had one and the repop kits I bought also had one as they cover a wide model year range.. the spacer in 67-72 binds the wavy spring and no clicky-clicky.. anyways, figured it out and the horn.... blows!

It feels good and no flexing and feels solid?

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?

it is softer than an OE on the top and bottom.. but I didn't even notice until you mentioned it

both kids pulled themselves up hanging on the wheel and I didn't notice anything that way either..

the appearance, fit and function with regards to horn and signal switch underneath was what I was referring to..

also didn't notice anything steering it, with power steering tho so folks with manual boxes may notice it at low speeds..

so I compared it to the longhorn OE wheel and although it does flex a little top and bottom, the aftermarket is substantially more..

well either way I'll leave it in there until I find a decent OE wheel..

the blue one I have is a cracked mess and the decent OE black one I have is going in the K20 Burb that also has a sticky wheel..

On the sticky wheel problem get some "GOO-GONE" and wash the wheel with it. You may have to do it a couple of times. It fixed mine. Hardware store or Wally-World should have it, probably Lowes or Menards too.

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?

thanks for the tip but despite multiple cleaning evolutions, these wheels are slowly dissolving..

puddle on the seat of the K20 is from the steering wheel..

that stain matches the right pantleg on several of my jeans..

this OE wheel has a bite mark at 11 o'clock but otherwise infinitely better feeling than the sticky one..

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?

Started getting ready for the 13th Annual "Christmas Cruise at the Beach" in King Harbor, Redondo Beach this Saturday, so besides the wreath on the grill, I decided to finish the rearview mirror I've been making...and I'm pleased with the results!
