Re: 58 TRUK intro

That looks great. He's right, the 58 headliner hole is a ton bigger than a 56. Learned something new today.

Re: 58 TRUK intro

if anyone is interested the door edge trim is protecto trim 39-221 25' roll
it comes with adhesive in the trim so it stays well
bought locally from a paint/body supply house

Re: 58 TRUK intro

last year i figured out that i had my door weatherstrip in backwards. if you installed it the way it looks good, it's wrong
i could see day lite around half of my door and had auxiliary weatherstrip stuck on in places

i turned it around yesterday. pulled all of those tenuous grabby push pins and re-installed the weatherstrip correctly.
went thru the car wash today to test it. previously i had to hold a rag on the doors as the high pressure rinse passed by.
not any more, i had a few spray thru's, but nothing like what i had before. my interior doesn't get soaked anymore, i call it a success

i always had a breeze on my left leg from air leaking, no more.
lot less road and exhaust noise in the cab too

you can see some of the auxiliary weather strip on the b pillar. plus i had a strip down the front on both doors. all gone now

Are you going to stop off at Lane Automotive in Watervliet MI on 6/11? I heard some people from the tour are stopping there for lunch. I was going to take a 1/2 day off and bomb over in my 48. If so maybe we will meet at last.

If I dont see you good luck on the Tour

Cool. According to your itinerary what time do you expect to arrive at Lanes?
I took a 1/2 day off work to come hang out.

Re: 58 TRUK intro

returned from power tour
2700 miles of carefree driving with a bunch of car/truck people.
met up with youngrodder: he's not so young and didn't bring his truck for me to see
also met up with mrhurt73 doing the long haul for the 2nd time
heard a lot of ''hey ogre'' call outs while cruising too.

first yr we took 500 pics, 2nd yr we took 200 pic and like pics of my 3rd child... we took 35 pics this year.
met up with this couple from florida driving a divco, i thought that was the coolest vehicle on tour

no break downs, though i did loose my speedo 100 miles from the house on the return trip

Re: 58 TRUK intro

We followed the Divco (very cool) into grounds at Crown Point and we saw your truck roll by twice in Bettendorf....though we were never able to catch up. Great looking truck Ogre!

And you were right, we had a blast!

Re: 58 TRUK intro

advanced design: bummer that i missed seeing you and your truck
i parked right behind the divco at crown point and then snuck into gold parking in bettendorf
i used my ogre stealth to get into the events itself for prime parking
i found out the first year that there is a lot of parking in the event itself, no need to walk a mile to get to the time clock

crown point

bettendorf

norwalk oh, i parked next to the tremec trailer. they weren't too happy to have an automatic on their turf

Re: 58 TRUK intro

i installed a new speedo a few years back in truk bought it from classic parts

speedo went bad coming home from the power tour, 100 miles from the house with 19700 miles on it
i called them and the product only has a 90 day warranty

ordered a new speedo from classic parts, the speedo arrived mangled
no damage on the box but the face plate was bent and creased, so classic parts shipped another one out
i wrote sales and they shipped a new one right away

new speedo #2 came mangle too... no damage on shipping box, inner box was crushed
''oh we're sorry mr ogre, i personally walked checked that speedo out and walked it back to shipping. we'll have to file a claim with ups''
wtf? where is the integrity in this vendor???

they did ship out another speedo, yes it arrived and yes it was bent, but no creases and i could make it work
straighten the needle and the face plate and i install new speedo #3, but it's no good
needle varies a lot from 0 to 25, smooths out until 50 and really gets erratic above 50 AND it read 10% fast

i'm shipping all 3 speedos back, they are refunding my money. at least they got that part right
and i have this feeling they will put each and every box right back on the shelf for the next sucker
classic parts has been in business for many years, they were known as chevy duty in the pre-internet years

i did order a new speedo from amazon, it is a dynacorn g20 speedo
though i have a feeling there is only one vendor in china turning these out

Thats sad news ogre. I've always had good luck with classic parts. I hope they get the quality control problems fixed.

mr ogre sir was my father... back in the era when all adults wanted to be mr, mrs, sir and mam
i'm just an ogre.. and thank you

just venting out of frustration of having to do the job 3 or 4 times due to crappy parts
got an email from amazon that the new speedo won't ship until mid august, which means they don't have it in stock
so i have to tear the bad speedo out to ship it back and put truk back together sans speedo if i want to drive it

Re: 58 TRUK intro

I don't blame you. This hobby / business is challenging enough to do when the parts are good. My experience last couple of years has been Vintage Air, Dakota Digital, and ididit all worked great and had excellent instructions. Just about every other part (brakes, fuel tank, LS harness and programming, etc etc) had issues or failures to work through. Frustrating and time / energy consuming.

Sorry to hi-jack....stepping off the soap box now.
