Re: 61K10 build
I wanna here that horn mooooo when you get it working though. lol. Yeah...sounds like its not grounding. Have this issue with my horn as well...either its not grounding to the frame, or the steering column has issues. Or both.

Re: 61K10 build
Hey Kimble, truck is looking awesome! I promise this is the last bumper question, I'm thinking you removed the rivets from the rear sill mount and used bolts to attach the mounts and bumper brackets?

Re: 61K10 build
Hey Brian, you should only have to drill 4 holes, if yours don't have any for the brackets like Kimbles. Mine and Kimbles looks exactly the same, and you don't have to remove the rivets. Blow up this pic and you'll see the holes and see why/how Kim made the brackets like he did.
Sorry Kim, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Re: 61K10 build
no problem Mitch (both frames looks good by the way) back to the bumper brackets. my sil brackets were bolted on (rivets removed) from the po which had the heavy bumper. I copied there bracket design some what. so yes you are right Brian. I put my bracket on the inside of the frame which make it harder to put bumper on and off. (you have to jack up the bed about 1 1/2") I almost put them on the outside of the frame which would have made install & remove easier. my bumper was off a 2wd probably long bed as the 2wd frames are wider and mount differently.
Brian what kind of bumper are you wanting to use? I still have the templets from mine that i can trace on paper and send to ya. Mitch do you have a build thread? Kimble

Re: 61K10 build
Well i drove my tk for the first time up to my neighbors house to feed their fish. boy this thing is rough riding and the t/f case is noisy as hell. (could be the rear end also) never got out of third gear, and it could use a smaller steering wheel (with the power steering) or a better ratio box. I never drove it before, just around my yard and then tore it apart. I guess my 2k Z71 spoiled me lol! now to get the hood on and get it out on the road.

Re: 61K10 build
I've been anxiously awaiting the maiden voyage! Yup, the sm420 and the t221 both have pretty healthy gear whine. Tough, but loud.

Re: 61K10 build
Also you'll like a quick ratio steering gearbox much better. I know you can get the 2wd boxes in the quicker ratio but im 100% sure about the 4wd boxes.

Re: 61K10 build
argonaut is right about the gear whine. I drove mine for the first time a couple of days ago. The truck was all over the road, I adjusted a lot of play out of the drag link and tightened up the steering box a little. I'm hoping it will help.
My two year old son and I drove my 66 K10 from Montana to Southern Ohio, 1800 miles I don't remember any driveability problems but I do remember the second day waking up in Sioux Falls SD to -15 and also the AM radio. But I was 22 years younger |

Re: 61K10 build
On the tk not much. still need to put the hood on. have some runs in the paint below the eye brows on the hood. when sanding and buffing them out, you still see them as the paint is a different color. might re-paint since the tk sits so high you will see them. will take a pic so you know what I'm talking about.
plated my steering arm on both sides (for extra strength) no way is it going to break now. moved a cord of wood to go with what i have from last year, and cleaned my wood stove chimney. getting ready for winter as I'm at 2500 feet in the sierra foot hills. going to rain tomorrow as that will be clean my shop day--what a mess lol! So Mitch what have you been doing on your tk? Kimble

Re: 61K10 build

You weren't kidding about how many times they beat the back of the cab. Looks like someone slung gravel rocks at the back. lol

Re: 61K10 build
Joe--thanks for the tip! I guess i need to upgrade lol! your tk gave me the motivation to do my tk. aren't you doing another one?
Mitch--your cab looks better than mine as far as rust holes go. there wasn't a panel on mine that didn't have a dent, and it still has dent's and some waves lol. Got to get my hood on (have a plan to do it without help) wish me luck! Get my new wire-rope on the winch. My 2k Z71 is clunking going into gear (reverse is louder) It's always something. a couple of pics-- take care guy's----------kimble

also my t/f case might be a little quieter as it in 4h instead of 2h--needs linkage adj. so some pics of my install
