Re: 198Plus build by Alan's Classic

Probably not a bad stamp, just fit a certain truck. I have a donor door on mine and the stamp is a little off too. It probably fit the original truck it was on perfectly. The chrome trim holes are off a little too, but probably fit the original fine. I think there were different measurements going on at different build plants back in the day. They got em close enough.

Re: 198Plus build by Alan's Classic

In those days it was just a truck, and they were put together very crude. Like on my truck the seam above the windshield is much bigger on the right side than the left side, and the door gaps are really bad. As far as it looks like my truck is all original.

Yeah that is my excuse for not making the body on my truck perfect like others on here. It has nothing to do with my inability

they had an allowable range for the fitment of the pieces and panels...if you look in the assembly manual it tells the tolerances....as strodder said, they were only trucks so the tolerances were fairly large
probably depended lot on the different assembly guys....we all know how that goes

I think I read somewhere that the gap all around the door is 5/32"
except the bottom, it has a 1/4" gap.....

These measurements are correct except if your truck was built on Friday afternoon.

Re: 198Plus build by Alan's Classic

I took my old 12 bolt rear end out tonight....411 gears and replaced it with another 12 bolt rear end I had with 373 gears and swapped out the trailing arms while I was at it.

I'm getting to old to be doing this crap by myself

I told Ronnie to have the guy that did the doors fix them and get them fitting the cab the way he wants. Then he said he is bringing it back to me to get the front sheet metal on. I really don't like going behind someone else's work. I don't know what is under the primer.

I've got to finish up the cab. The bed needs some more work still.

Ronnie will have to tell you about the frame etc.

Looks good sitting on the trailer. It's going to be a nice straight truck.

That is one straight truck Alan! Which makes me think of a question, how do you guys wash between the end of the bed and the cab? I cant even get my hand in between there to put any kind of pressure on whatever I might use to wash it?

Thanks!! As far as washing it I couldn't tell you. I have not washed one in 20 years. I got mine home and tore it apart right away.
