Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Hopefully it's in in the next 2 weeks. The only thing slowing me down is brake lines and motor mounts. Now I have both, just to get them on.
You will get to it eventually.Hopefully,he will come help you since you helped him with his. Last edited by 1969k10stepside; 05-28-2007 at 12:55 AM. |

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Tonight...I took some stuff like headers, intake, carb, etc back off the motor in preperation for the motor going in.I also nearly got the rear axles brake lines bent and ran.Just one more bend and the rear axle lines are done...Next is the lines through the frame...which shouldnt be that hard

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Well,I was trying to figure out the motor mounts today.I have the mounts that mount on the block with 3 bolts,I was also thinking there was more "rubber" that went on the bottom of the crossmember.I,after cleaning out my parts shed looking for some, decided to go back to the chassis and look at things again.I got a old mount,a bolt, and a washer and bolted the mount down to the crossmember as it would be with the motor attached. That's when I came to the conclusion that the only mounts for the motor were the ones that bolt, with 3 bolts,to the block. So,now that the situation has been solved the motor is ready to go in.I never up till this afteroon had the oil pan on.So,I got the gaskets and bolts and bolted the pan down. The motor, still not all done is ready to atleast be set in the chassis where it can be finished.I'm hoping the motor is in by the weekend.I still have to finish running front brake lines first.
As for the motor,I just need to install the intake, carb, valve covers, harmonic ballancer,HEI,headers, etc.Stuff that can be done with the motor in the chassis Last edited by 1969k10stepside; 06-03-2007 at 09:24 PM. |

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Yeah...sorta.11 months ownership now! I got the motor off the stand and attached to the hoist. Its sitting on a block of wood now but is still attached to the hoist.Tomorrow the motor goes in! I got out the flywheel and cleaned it up so tomorrow the flywheel goes on,the convertor, the tranny gets bolted on,then it all goes in.I slide the O ring in between the t case and tranny, bolt the tranny to the t case lower the motor in a bit more and then bolt the motor down....so,11 months into ownership the motor will be going in.
Now,11 months may seem like a long time to get this far but I really didnt work on it till Late October or Early November.I think I did good considering the chassis was blasted and painted, the axles were rebuilt, the motor was rebuilt, the lift was installed...and who did all the work?...me! 95 % of the work was done right in my little 30x40 shop. The only outside the shop work was having the block bored, and having the tires put on the rims. I'm just a little ashamed to say whats in it for being close to running, but not actually running... Last edited by 1969k10stepside; 06-04-2007 at 11:26 PM. |

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Eric, you're about half right..Cept only about 40% is new.The only new stuff on the truck is the lift, shocks, bushings, all the motor parts with the exception of the block and crank. The lugnuts, the lockouts, bearings and seals.Brake lines. So far all the rest was original.Which I did want.95% of the body is original which is a plus when it comes to gaps and body lines. But,the build wasnt about buying new stuff, its about buying stuff from junkyards and bringing it up from the dead back to life.

Way to go that is something to be proud of. I sure would be and having fun while doing it. That is what this hobby is all about. I would rather have a truck like yours that I built myself than some trailer queen that I am afraid to drive.

Congratulations! Awfully exciting when the motor is back where it belongs. How soon until you expect to be able to fire it up?

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
No hurry on the camera Actually one might be showing up soon, never know.I might just wait and buy one after the truck is together enough to move so the first new pics are of it stuck in a mud hole
So,you are running a 2" lift (add-a-leaf) in the rear and stock height in the front? Did you have the springs re-arched?That might bring the height back up some. The front springs were easy to put in on mine, but the back were a P.I.T.A. Mainly because of the arch of the lift springs. Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Well,I didnt get the motor fired...getting close though. One more chance at it and it should be ready.I got the fuel pump, water pump, and intake bolted on.I probably would have got the motor fired but I need to get the harmonic ballancer on.So,before the motor can start I need to....install carb, install distributor, install plugs and wires.Install exhaust.Fill motor up with oil.Hook up radiator and fill it up.Put on valve covers and then get it ready to rumble...Junkyard run tomorrow.2 hour one way drive,so I wont get any work done tomorrow..Hope to get some parts though!
