Re: Project "Captain Insano"
Thanks. My intentions were to look for a replacement fender, but I haven't been able to get around to it. I figured I already had the patch panel, so give it a shot. I did a lot of procrastinating over it but its just about done now.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"
Thanks guys. I finally got some paint down. I've been working every hr I have. Got the insides of the fenders & doors, and bedsides painted. It's time to get a new camera soon, pics are looking blurry. Got a little orange peal, but I laid down 4 heavy coats of clear, so it should sand out nicely. Hopefully I can paint some more tomorrow morning.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"
Nice job, paint looks great. What type of paint gun are you using for your base/clear?

Re: Project "Captain Insano"
Just a cheap Vapor from autozone. I think I paid about $60. It sprays decently. Lays down the base nice and flat, and I guess the clear also. I got some orange peal in the clear but it's not to bad. It'll sand out quickly. I'll take some close up pics of it.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"
Thanks Mike! Heres some more pics for viewing pleasure. I've been a little worried that I wouldn't be excited about the color choice, but once I got it out in the sun, it couldn't be any more perfect. It's the exact shade that I was envisioning.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"
I don't know if its a GM color. I just picked it out of the DuPont chromabase book. MM457 is the code. It's in the dark section, labeled medium neutral effect.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"
Thanks, Everybody! I got the cab & doors painted Monday. Working on getting the hood, fenders, & grill ready to shoot Friday. I'm hoping I will have some time this weekend to hang the doors, I'm excited to see it with them on. Here's a few pics up close of the orange peel. I'm pleased with the gun. I think it's a good one for a hobbyist like myself. If painting was my career, then I would for sure invest in a top of the line gun. I've been spraying the sealer, base, and clear with it. There's no tiger strips or anything so far.

In the Dupont Chormabase book, there is a series of shades. On my 01 Silverado in post #275, the top color is in the same series but a few shades darker. I think it was MM460. I loved the color, but I wanted it a little lighter for my 68. The 68 is MM457. It's the metallic section also. It's a 1:1 mix ratio. 1 part base, 1 part basemaker. A quart of base is $145, a quart of basemaker is $28. I've used 2 1/2 quarts of base so far. I have close to 1 1/2 quarts left. I just need to spray the hood, fenders, grill, tailgate, and tubs. I'm guessing I'll have about a 1/2 quart left over. I didn't have the money to buy all the paint at once. I wasn't very concerned if the interior and outside had a shade difference. So I bought a quart, sprayed the interior and firewall. I had about 1/2 quart left. Bought another quart and mixed it with the other leftovers and sprayed the inner bedsides, fenders, and doors. Then I mixed that leftover with the rest that I'm spraying the outer panels. I can't really see a difference, but I just made sure the paint for the outer was from the same batch.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"
The first pic in post #390 shows the color the most accurately so far. The rest of the pics is what it looks like inside the garage.
