Re: Project "Sweet 16"
x2 on 99's comments. We have a kill switch behind the seat (in the center of the cab).
I run a 185 on 180 off sender that threads into the manifold ( hate those probes with the "adustable" control. I don't trust them). So far the boys truck runs at about 175 on the highway, and 180-85 in town at 95* ambient outside air tempature with the AC at full blast. The reason for the increased temp in town I'm sure is that the pusher fan doesn't move quite enough air (I'm working on a solution to that now). I'm using an ez 12 circuit harness. It has switched power for the fan and is relayed in the fuse box. A very nice setup. I've never felt the need to leave the fan on after the engine is off (my system never goes over 205 deg when shut off). If you did want that, you could wire a switched override to bypass the sender, but it seems like a lot of effort for not much gain. Washer squirters came off a 63 Chevy truck (I think they may have been aftermarket), the tank is an old glass washer fluid bottle (60's GM) and the pump is a Oreilly's aftermarket cheapo. Works well though. Hope that helps.

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Thanks for the info! I don't want my fan to run after the motor is shut down, so it sounds like I won't need to change anything.

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Hey Fred, been keeping up with you thread since we met at Brads. Haven't posted, just been watching. Nice job on the signage, carpet, etc. I know you and Mike are going on Power Tour, which will cost a few bucks. I just wanted to know if you might be going to the NSRA show in Springfield this week-end. Two events that close makes it hard with money. If you were going, just wanted to make sure we hook-up. Love all the things you've done since I last saw the truck, enjoy....Jim

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Hey Jim, Yeah, some of the guys from my club are going to Springfield this weekend. We chose Power Tour. I'm sure there will be another event or two down your way this summer that we'll be headed to.
Thanks for the compliments on the truck, we're pretty happy with how it came out. I was actually getting ready to pick your brain on convertible tech, a buddy of mine just gave me a nice solid cab that has had the 5-window section removed, and I was considering losing the rest of the top to save it. I'll PM ya. ~Chris

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
POWER TOUR! Although we only did 2 days, it was a Great experience! We met several folks from the board down there, and had a blast!
The only problem the truck had was a broken rocker arm (oem stamped steel) halfway between Texarkana and Little Rock. Hot Rod Mag even pulled us over for pics and an interview of my boy! Hoping it makes the Magazine next month. Got tons of pics,

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Man that's cool maybe someday... Back in 98-99 I bought a 67 chevy long bed out of a soybean field in Fayette Mo and spent a yr. putting on disc brakes. v8, auto, tilt, posi and did nothing to all the rust, drove it a year and sold it to one of my regular customers for his son. His son worked in Booneville at a gas station on I-70. That year the 2001 power tour went through Mo. and stopped at that station, They took a picture of the parking lot of the station and there in the middle of all the cars was my old truck and every issue for the next year that picture was used for the power tour add, My all most claim to fame. I guess it was rat rod before that was a cool thing because the body never did get fixed the bed was rusted so bad you could see through it, but it ran good. Hope your son has his 15 minutes of fame.

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
congrats, sounds fun. I'd be interested to see more of that connies farm truck with the 55.1 series hood, looks very similar to that smittys truck. Loving all the AD trucks and patina rolling around.

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Thanks all. I got lot's more pics. I'm gonna have to upload them to photobucket and post a link (almost 500 total).
Connie's Farm was a 5.3L on a complete custom chassis. Smitty's was a 4.8L on an S10 Chassis, it actually belongs to Mr48chevybagged (on this forum). Both bagged, and both very well built trucks, way more high tech and get better mileage than my old 350!

Yep, 1296 miles. I'll see if I can't find him on here. He has the bare metal panel truck as well.
edit: His handle is actually 48Chevbagged... my bad!

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Jim, not 100% sure on the build direction yet. The owner can't seem to decide if he wants to restore, or modify it. The most I can get out of him is "I want it running". LMAO
He just bought the freshly rebuilt and running 216 from another friends 1950 5 window, and wants to drop that in place of the siezed 207 that's in his 33. I'll post up some pics of this 33 later, it is in AMAZING shape! It'd actually be a damned shame to cut it up and rod it (coming from a hot rod guy this is a real statement!) On the other hand, mechanical brakes aren't too highway friendly either!
