Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
I'm in on this one. I drove up to Rochester yesterday to pick up a few parts and had the opportunity to chat with this VERY knowledgeable guy and check out this awesome build. Learned a bunch of stuff! Thanks for the time well spent Mike! I really enjoyed our talk!

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
I have been slacking on keeping my thread up to date. After a lot of back and forth, I ended up going with an American Autowire Classic update kit because I have used them in the past and their stuff is top notch. I started on it last night and I was able to finish the dash portion of the harness. I will be eliminating the factory gauge harness, factory heat/ac harness and a good portion of the engine harness because of all of the modifications I have made to the truck. . It seems like a waste but once you look at what I removed, it's not that much.
I also got my engine management harness, PCM and TCM in as well. I mocked the harness up and cut my hole in the firewall for my harness grommet. Once the engine covers are on, the harness practically disappears. I'm mounting the ECM/TCM and relay panel in the cab so everything will be hidden away and clean. I also got my battery mounted in the rear. I still need to wire both front and rear body harnesses, wire my Dakota Digital gauges, finish wiring the vintage air, fuel pump and make my runs from the battery to the engine. And did I mention that I hate wiring Also, I completely failed on my goal of firing the truck by Memorial Day and I'm pretty bummed about that. I'm just going to keep my head down and keep working on the truck as much as I can and hope to be driving it sometime this summer. This picture is for my motivation only

Don't worry Mike my goal of driving mine by June is slowly disappearing. As long as it is what I want in the end I am good

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
Everything you have done is cool Mike, I think I may have meant June of 2018 not 2017
I am going to rename my project "Project 1968 FDIC"

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
Definitely felt that with my pops 73. It's at least 6 months past the due date already but a couple test drives show it's close finally. As you said keep that head down and add a nice little trim piece every couple hours or so to make you smile. That always helped me

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project
Last week we took off on a little family adventure. It was 8 days total, 4000 miles driven, lots of cool stops along the way and I met a new friend. Leading up to our vacation I took a chance and contacted Kyle @ C10Acres on Instagram. For those who have not heard of Kyle, you will probably hear of him soon. He is a super talented guy and does phenomenal work shortening bed sides. We talked for a while and Kyle agreed to work on my bedsides and what was even more cool is he agreed to get them done during our stay in the Phoenix area.
He started on the bed sides on Friday evening and I picked them up at 7pm on Sunday evening. He has this procedure down to a science but he found an old and ****ty hidden repair in the drivers side that was unexpected. He was still able to get them done and get us on the road as scheduled. Another cool thing to me is he was able to save/shorten my existing side trim and re-installed the rear marker lights. I know some people wouldn't waste their time having bed sides shortened but it is important to me to use as much of the original truck as possible. The original sheet metal is much thicker and for me it's just much cooler to use the original stuff. Here are a few pictures of the process. Passenger side cut lines taped up clamped together and ready to be welded And here is the passenger side welded up and metal finished. The driver's side had a little existing damage right behind the bumper from what looked like a small rear end accident. Kyle called me to let me know when he starting cutting on the panel in this area, he ran into an ugly repair that had a lot of bondo. He put his head down and fixed something that I didn't think could be fixed. I really thought thought we were dead in the water at this point but as you can see in the following pictures, the man is talented. Here is what he ran into And here they are finish welded and the marker lights welded back in. I couldn't be happier with Kyle's work and like I said, I got a new friend out of the situation. Now its back to reality which means I need to finish wiring this garbage and get it on the road.
