Re: The build date project
378 posts and still only 2 1969 chevrolets from the Tarrytown plant. On top of that not a single one from 71. I know that my replacement frame is from the Tarrytown plant and was wondering if it's partial vin could be added as the first 71 Tarrytown chevrolet 1T614733

Re: The build date project
Just found my protecto-plate. 2F118607, delivery date 11/10/71, Bath Michigan. Thanks for your help. Just found my protectoplate, it's a Chevy, 2F118607, delivered 11/10/71, Bath Michigan. Bought at Bee's Chevy-Olds in St' Johns Michigan. Would that be an October 71 built truck? There are some codes on the protectoplate also, anyone know what those are?

Is this your truck? Do you want it listed as your truck on the list? Otherwise, honestly, without any build month info, it doesn't provide much value IMO. I'm hoping to update my lists in the next few days... 0Z171479 = 6/70 2A150074 = 03/10/72 |

Re: The build date project
That is my truck, you can put it on the list. i figure the more serial numbers that come up close to mine will give me a good build date month. I know from what I see on the list it was fall of 71. I thought I added pics but they are a little blurry. I don't see where to add pics now.

The number below that is transmission serial number with date of 10/13/71 (286th day of 1971). The number below the truck serial number is rear axle assembly serial number. I believe R11 would be for October 11, but I'm not certain. Then, on the far right is a chevy emblem with another digit stamped next to it for the build month. I can't read it... I would have expected a K for October or an L for November. So, not knowing the build month digit, I would say your truck's build date was sometime between 10/13/71 - 11/10/71. Oh, and the lone 'R' is for Rochester carburetor. |

Re: The build date project
I thought that was a 6 but comes out as a J on macro with the camera. That would be September? They didn't use an "I" in the code? Thanks for the help.

Re: The build date project
Sorry I can't be more help with Stephen717's search for 1971 Tarrytown trucks, but here is a little.
1T617829 which was my old truck. The only reason I know the VIN is because of my insurance company messing up. When I replace my 1971 truck with my 1970 truck, they never updated the VIN on my policy. My 1971 was sent to the scrap yard around 1993ish, but if you look at my policy it says 2010, with a year of 1970, but a VIN of a 1971 truck, so yes it took me about 17 years before realizing the issue. Good thing I never got into an accident with my 1970! Insurance companies go by VIN not the Plate. Here are a couple of pics of the old girl and insurance card to build the total number of trucks produced from Tarrytown in 1971. Last edited by K_JR69; 08-04-2022 at 01:26 AM. |

Re: The build date project
Are you able to get a clear picture of the top left of the build sheet where the date is printed? Guessing early March based on the protecto plate.

Re: The build date project
Here's a firm assembly date on a Flint 72 Blazer built for export to Canada now FS on BAT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...et-blazer-108/. Wish we could access similar documentation.
