I despise locking gas caps and lugs. Just another key to misplace. My 70 Mustang came with locking lugs and when I took it in for tires the shop called me and asked where the key was? Key? What key? I didn't know that it had them and no key in sight. They got them off with a big socket IIRC. I'll never put them on any vehicle.

No problem. I've got a 2 gallon gas can that's pretty much full in the garage.

Problem. It has a locking gas cap and the key doesn't work.

So I go on Youtube to see how to get this dang thing open. They show guys using a screwdriver and it comes right off. I tried that...Didn't work. It's still on there. (sigh). This thing isn't giving up easy.

See if there is a code number stamped into the face of the lock cylinder, right next to the key hole. It would either be numbers, or letters and numbers. If there is, a locksmith may be able to cut a key from the code.

There's nothing there. It appears to have had some writing on it at some time but it's totally sun faded.

I have a key that looks like the gas key but it won't go in at all like a key may be broken in there. I couldn't even get an ice pick to go in.

It would have been stamped into the metal if it was there.

The grooves in your key were probably not compatible with the cap.

Hey Paul, you have a battery-powered drill, right? Or if not, a long extension cord and a 110 volt powered drill? It's not like you're opening a branch of Midnight Auto Supply if you drill the lock out in broad daylight.

I thought of drilling it. I'm just worried about drilling clear through and crud falling into the tank. I'm probably just overthinking it. But if it could happen to anyone it would be me.

Happened to me with my shower yesterday. It had this shampoo/conditioner dispenser thing stuck to the tile. It was old crusty and seriously ugly so I went to pry it off of the tile. It was really stuck so I put some muscle into it and it went flying across the shower and exploded into a million pieces and there was all this shampoo goo all over the tub. So I cleaned up the broken parts and called my painter and pointed at the gooey mess and asked him if he had been spanking the monkey in there. He got a good laugh out of that one.

I’ve also had one stolen and I’m kinda paranoid about driving it and leaving it parked outside like at a movie theater, WalMart, or at work. I really enjoy the truck, but it worries me at the same time. The other guy made me a really nice offer and I accepted it today. The truck’s new home will be in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Deal fell through yesterday. "Oh Canada" guy called and said when he called to see what it would take to get it across the border, there were too many taxes & fees.

No worries from me, though. I like my truck and I'll just keep it and drive it.

You would think that he would have thought of that beforehand.

But at least you can keep that beautiful truck and have no regrets. I still regret not buying that brand spanking new 1990 454 SS. But my wife said that we needed a family car. So "we' got a new 4 door Saturn! Woo hoo! I think that I just vomited in my mouth. I do that when I think about it.

33 years later and I'm still grumbling over that one.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Today. I tried to buy a faucet.

I am remodeling my bathroom. I’m putting in a new vanity and sink. The whole nine yards. I looked at a bazillion faucets until I got a headache. Then I found one that I really liked.
Then I see it... In big capital letters “NOT AVAILABLE IN CALIFORNIA’. Really? You’ve got to be kidding me. It’s a faucet for god’s sake! What’s the problem? Is it going to give me cancer like everything else under the sun that they put the dumb warning labels on? Where does it stop? I’ve been around a long time and my bathroom sink never did anything to me. I wish that I could say the same about the mirror. That thing is just downright cruel.

We had that problem once. My wife had a friend in AZ and she shipped it to her. Then, she shipped it us.

Yes it looks like a winner. I'm just needing to get the front off the ground so I can drag it with the Kubota. I'm waiting on an installation of my culvert to back up to them to take them to the sawmill. Tim, you are right about thr Amish. They have a lot of things figured out that we don't.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Went to pick up a prescription and swung by the house we just sold. 30 yard dumpster out front with (what I could see) kitchen cabinets. We dropped ~$1200 on flooring for the kitchen, laundry and one bathroom. My wife told me it's probably in the dumpster, that's what she would expect. But we sure couldn't sell it with the peeling linoleum. Must be nice to have that kind of money. They probably dumped those plywood cabinets I built in '82, too!
