Looks great. Did you do that while they were still on the truck. If so, just free hand or did you do any masking.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
LOTS of masking. Used my rear bumper's box to make a 2" "window" in 4ft section. Only masked the upper and lower with the expensive/good tape then used cheap tape/duct to join the window to the good tape. Painted with my touch up gun with Rustoleum 4 parts flat to 1 part gloss 1 part acetone. Key is to use a flat surface (like a paint stick in my case)and wrap paper tight around it. Wet with acetone and use even pressure to expose to two shiny high ridges. Tedious but worth the effort.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Looked at a parts truck. 72 Super with every option. The engine sounds great, it has many nice parts, and the references I'm looking for (e.g., trim hole locations). It's mostly stock and the SPID correct. Factory A/C still installed (doesn't work), but bonus. The cab is toast in my novice opinion. Rust has eaten through the top gutter, front corners and likely the rear corners too. Some front fender rust too, eaten through. I didn't even take it for a spin, but I've since left a message with the seller he has a deal if the tranny, suspension, rear-end and steering check out. It's not expensive.
So anyway, that's what I did "for" my truck anyway. Peter to pay paul on location. Hope I get it.

Today saw me (and dad) getting the heater box back onto the firewall and I just got in from running a NOS fender to a painter.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Yesterday after I finished a graveyard shift, I went home and put in new spark plugs, then ended the evening cleaning it all up for a car show on Saturday. The best part was the last spark plug falling down between the start solenoid and the oil pan...

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I didn't actually do this myself, but I paid for it. I stopped the gear oil leak coming out of the transfer case. The previous owner used RTV to seal it and it didn't hold. I have no experience rebuilding transfer cases and thought it prudent to have it done by a professional.
...and they had the missing part so now my speedo works!!!! |

Cleaned up and polished my West Coast Jr's, installed new glass, and new SS hardware.
The one on the drivers side is not very useful, but it looks good which is all that matters. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Took it to the tire shop to get a couple of tires mounted on her. Drove there with a center cap loosely bolted on, lost it on the way there.
Also wired my tachometer lights to the cluster lights. Little by little.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Started some sanding, found an empty lot. Love the west coast trucks, found all metal . Just sanded down chips. Boy I miss my house and garage. Painted cluster panel. Removed shim from starter, now starts correctly. Painted and installed corner core support brackets.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
yeah.. its about 4 days worth of work on that area. It had lots of holes drilled in it to hold a ton of bondo.. I welded the holes shut and warped it and had to heat shrink it back out and dolly the hell out of it. The filler is really thin, but its from the top of the wheel well to the front edge.

If those before and after pictures don't give you a warm, fuzzy feeling, then I don't know what to say. Those bedsides turned out very nice

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Thanks.. both sides was rough under all the layers of paint and bondo.. but there was no rust at all, so I had no choice but to save them and put the money elsewhere... The back corners are the biggest challenge of all...
