I wanted everything bolted in place so I can line it up. My bed and cab already have holes from the factory.

Yes it does an awesome job. I like the adjusters on it to adjust the angle of the beam.

Nothing but a thing. Once I drill them I'll touch the edge of the holes up with some paint. I know the clips will do some scratching going in.

Spent 7 hours today priming, repairing, priming and painting the bottom of the hood. It's still has a few pings in it, but might not be noticeable once mounted. I might go back and paint the top tomorrow. I've got 3 weeks to get it ready for our 3rd annual board get together "Chewin' the Fat" and cruise afterwards.

Other than spraying the hood I got the wipers working (thanks ray_mcavoy ). It was driving me crazy I couldn't get the wipers to work when installed in the truck. I had the switch out of the dash making it easier to test. I needed to ground the switch. Why didn't I think of that?

I also got the front turn signals put together. Going with a clear lense and amber bulb.

Alan I was wondering how many hours you have into welding up that seam and bodywork on the hood.

Best looking gmc hood I've seen yet!

Worked about 10 hours this weekend. It's got some flaws, more than I want. It still looks good. Gonna do another shake down run when I take it to work this week. If it makes it there and back my confidence will be a little higher.

It will be a total WAG, most of the repair was due to the blaster damage. Due to that total labor is about 50+ hours. Wlding and grinding the seam took about 3 hours. Filler work around the seam was 4-5 hrs. BTW thanks for the comments.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10

Not a good day as far as progress. I sanded the hood and put 3 coats of clear on it. It slicked out nice, but as it dried it died back. (2nd pic) I don't understand why it happens and have heard different stories why. I've never had it happen to me until now. I was hoping to bolt it on soon. i will either buff it or sand and clear. Repainting will be faster unless it happens again. Outside in the sun you can't see the die back cause it's so bright.

I also took the truck for another 7 mile journey. It was half way warmed up and started to pull up a small hill and it started popping thru the exhaust. It's more of a crack sound. I turned around and went to the house. It never did it again. So i went back out and continued the trip. The crack/pop sound when not warmed up is confussing me. Ronnie has suggested try a different carb.

I also got the peep mirrors and installed tonight.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10

Your paint might be looking different due to differences in temperature and weather conditions from when the other paint was done. Also, your popping/cracking problem, what carburetor do you have on it now? It could be your issue. What are you running for your fuel pump? I would just check over everything and also check your filters and inlets to your carb, as I have seen things restrict fuel flow after new trucks/cars are put together (from cutting lines, etc.). Good luck with sorting out your paint and the popping issue with the engine.

Thanks for the input. I painted the top side with 2 coats of PPG single stage using 884 hardener and 872 reducer this past Sunday (yesterday) then sanded and cleared today with 8152 clear can't remember the hardener number and 872 reducer all mixed 3:1:1. Maybe it was too soon. I did the same thing to my bed if I remember correctly. The weather conditions were the same the past 2 days.

I'm running a Eldebrock 1406 or 1407, which ever is the 750.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10

I don't see what your talking about in the second picture. What's died back? Your popping can be an exhaust leak when cold, combined with a lean carb. Isn't a 750 carb too big for a 400ci though? Is it popping on decel, or acceleration? Other possibilities could be a sticking exhaust valve, or ignition problem. Not sayin that I know it all, but just giving you some ideas.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10

Quick paint question: When you say, "sanded and cleared" do you mean you sanded the base coat before spraying clear to flatten it or you were out of the recoat window for your base since you cleared it the next day, so you had to sand for the clear to stick?

Died back= lost shine with a slight peel look.

Most recommend a 750 cfm, but want to do the carb calculator on holley's web site. I'm sure I've already did this 12 years ago. I will double check.

Thanks for the other inputs.

No base involved. Sprayed single stage sunday and came back the next day sanded and cleared. I'm thinking the single stage was too green, but I'm not a professional painter.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10

Alan , a vacuum gage mounted where you can see it would help diagnose the popping , maybe a few wires need to be seperated or maybe it is loosing electrical power for a split second ...anyways the hood looks like it was done by a professional , now next time just do it yourself , you have proved it many times over ... you are the man!!!

At the time I wasn't confident of my metal shrinking abilities. Especially when both sides are visible. I did learn some things from the old guy. He taught me a few things about shrinking metal and it paid off in my abilities to do the job my self. Yes I feel he created more work for me, but I not only learned some tips from him I also realized I don't need help in that area anymore. Don't get me wrong I can always learn something.

Thanks for the comments and input. I'll keep the vac guage handy. I was thinking the dizzy is going crazy, along with a few other things.

I'm not the man, Just another squirrel trying to find a nut.

I noticed yesterday during my short drive that the speedo reads 60 and feels like 40-50. I'll get my dashboard app on my iphone and see what it really is. I'll have to do some research to see what gear I need.

I sanded and buffed the hood tonight. It buffed out pretty nice.
