Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I love the rustic look. That counter was semi-rustic I guess. I saved every scrap of that old oak. It came from a 250 year old building and the tree we figured was about 250 years old when cut. That tree started growing 500 years ago!

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Since we did Christmas yesterday with my family and tomorrow we go to the misses family decided it was as good a time as any to make some more cutting boards . These are Ash that was dying from the Emerald ash borer . I kept the live edge as the it looked interesting the way the borer made its tunnels

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

well i've been working on this for more than today, but today i'm finished and will move onto something else.i bought a sheet metal brake from Princess Auto here(like Harbor Freight in the States)brought it home and never opened it cause i KNEW it was going to be cheap China junk so back it went,i thought i can build something better,so here it is,a 48 inch metal brake,a place off the side to mount my shear,a old antique Record swivel vise my Father-in-law gave me.i took it all apart, cleaned, greased, painted it and put it back together and that gives me a place to mount my bead roller off the other side of the table or whatever else i need a vice for, then across the back, what i call a pipe vise but i'm sure that's not the proper name.2 different sized pipes that let me roll metal over a pipe for a driveshaft tunnel,a transmission tunnel or whatever?i played with some scrap material and i think this is going to work just fine.

I know what to buy and avoid.

You have the Perfect Work Bench.

Do you have a Beverly Shear hiding there somewhere?

Great Job on the Bench.

thanks.i think it turned out well.i shop at Princess Auto here and Harbor Freight when i'm in the States, but as you say, there are things you can buy, things you can't.i don't have a Beverly shear, just a hand power shear that does a good job, surprisingly and the one on the side of my table that i bought at Eastwood in Pottstown,Pa when my buddy and i were there to go to Williamsgrove Speedway to watch the World of Outlaw cars a couple of trips ago.

I was going to say the same thing. I would say the shipping would be around $1,000 for that to the central states. Maybe a little less along the East coast, but shipping is NUTS !!

Yep, shipping is working on pricing itself out of existence... at least for us individual retail customers. I remember being amazed the first time I heard of an item costing less than it's shipping cost. Everyday occurrence now. It has become the norm, and shipping costs will keep increasing

yes sir, you're right, shipping is nuts and it's just not big stuff like this table or whatever.i mailed out a bunch of calendars a week or so ago,the mail was almost as much as the calendars?then they wonder why the Post Office loses money?people don't mail stuff or ship stuff unless they need to anymore.a few years ago,i bought a 1956 DeSoto Hemi motor in Largo,Florida.i checked on having it shipped and it was about $1600.00 for a $1000.00 engine.we flew to Florida, bought a Toyota Truck that a friend of mine here ended up with, loaded in the engine, bought a pair of new Torq-Flex trailer axles that are under my car trailer i built, bought a new tool box, visited with our friends,Bob and Diane, the fella who is now sick with cancer in Ohio that we've gone to visit twice in the last year and headed home.we still spent some money, had a little vacation and i got a bunch of stuff home for the same money.

I remember what I paid for shipping for a lot of things in my past and it's amazing how little that was. Sure seems disproportionate

The SMear-Nah Post Office has always been Lacking (Slacking) for Years on end.

I worked in Smyrna for years and would drive to the Lebanon PO,
So, I would know that nothing would not get loss in the Cracks.

There are 2 twin sisters that work there that Take care of business.

I now drive pass one PO that is closer to go there in Lebanon.

Well, it's a late gift for the wife but she loves it. That's the important thing.
This is the 2nd time I have ordered something from Florida and paid up for the delivery and had a lost parcel for a bit. Our local PO was absolutely no help what so ever! Must be a requirement for some POs. His give a damn was still BUSTED!

Yep the practice of paying for expedited and then UPS and FedEx hand it off to USPS is complete bull****. I've had this happen too and the USPS has become just like government offices. They hide behind 1 phone number for hundreds of people and endless phone menus and 3rd party contractors to dodge accountability or having to actually talk with "we the people" who they are screwing over.
OK, that may have sounded a little political, but it wasn't meant to be..really...

It's not political. It's also the way the big corporations do things.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

What did I do today...? Let's see: I fixed one dryer; I tore another one down but I didn't get to replacing the motor bearings yet; I hung up a whole bunch of artwork on our entry hallway that my wife wanted rearranged after my daughter gave her a new one for Christmas (over the stairs, on the top rung of my ladder); I sold an old Subaru; I cleaned leaves and muck out of about 120' of gutter; I went to my daughter's house to chase away her ex-boyfriend; I swept my driveway and mopped my garage; I recycled some metal... I think that's about it. And I was supposed to be resting my injured back today. I'm not very good at resting, I guess. At least that's what my wife says.

I had the same problem after my back surgery. I couldn't sit still. I don't think I did as much in one day as you did though...

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

well after finishing up the metal workers table i just built,i got back into the 39 Chrysler making pieces for the floor, still a long way to go til i get to the back of the car but here's the first few pieces i made getting back over the tall part of the frame right at the "X" in the middle.once i'm past this part,it's mostly flat but at different elevations, all with beads pressed in.a little progress anyway, better than none at all.
