Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

How did you restore them? Just paint or were they repaired?

Firedemon, engine looks nice, so with alt on drivers side does that make it no power steering then.

Nice to know that I'm not the only person using ratchet straps to hold body parts up where they can be worked on.

So, you did yours in the garage? I would love to paint mine myself, but the time & location isn't right now.

And that's the important part.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I finished paint on the cab, last night. This green is so translucent, it took 8 coats over the repaired/primed areas. 6 coats of clear. PPG shopline. For me, this is a huge milestone.

Inspiring and beautiful.
I keep going back and forth and either painting mine in the garage, or just sending it to paint prison in a shop.

Ten years ago did the body work on my girlfriend's Probe and then had Maaco paint it. It took a three weeks to complete it. Car was hit in the rear so I got a bumper panel, taillights and hatch before I took the car apart. Maaco had the car four days and came out good. If I had to do it again I would see if I could supply the paint. Their paint chips too easy. This may be a good option for you. The application of the paint was flawless and it revealed the slight dent in the new hatch I never noticed.

makes me laugh and sad

I had a very good body man "promise to paint my truck in summer 2015 (I bought truck in May '15) I waited until my "appointment time" (completely disassembled it) and never got the call.. Too busy.. In 2016 I contacted (pleaded) with local body shop.. He promised June (2 weeks) end June its done

I'll never buy another vehicle that needs paint

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

It's getting harder to find body shops to do older cars. The insurance companies are forcing body shops to turn away that kind of work as they feel it interferes with their collision repairs. So we're mostly left with full on restoration shops or less than professional shops the insurance companies won't use.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I was kinda forced into doing it myself. I couldn't find a shop that would do it (they all want the insurance jobs), the help I did find didn't work out so well. So, if you want something done....

What a humbling experience. I think I made every mistake in the book, and then started writing my own chapter! For me, if I could have had someone work with me, steer me on the righteous path, it would have been a pleasant experience. Unfortunately I only had help here and there, lots of reading and youtube, a warchest for tools and supplies.

Thanks for the compliments! I take motivation wherever I can. Here's where we started:

Nice job, brother. I've got cracks in the plastic insert, did you have any to fix?

I reestablished the underhood horn wiring, and heard it honk for the first time since I've had it. Next step is installing the new hub and horn connection kit from Forever Sharp and get the steering wheel back on.

I bolted on a new exhaust manifold, after making the slipring section for the donut seal. Also replaced the valve cover gaskets.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Got a amazon gift card the other day for my 50th birthday. Who'd thought you can get c10 stuff off there? So the gauge panel I ordered came in today. Looking a whole lot better than what I have. Can't wait to put it in. Not bad for forty bucks.
