Pulled my 3 speed trans and installed a 4 speed trans , used my 3 speed on the column and converted it to a 4 speed column shift with reverse shifter under the seat . Tested it up on stands and shifted great may tomorrow to test run it and make sure it shifts good.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I had painted the CHEVROLET letters on my tailgate, but found where I had cut the tape around each letters, CUTS appeared into the body color. So NOW, I had to sand that down, tape up the letters and will be repainting the tailgate. I've been told repeatedly that the "smart" thing to have done, is to paint the letters before painting the body color. Sunday will be a great time to complete this.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

My new handmade wood gearshift knob made my used wood steering wheel look shoddy by comparison, so I refinished the wheel in deep gloss varathane to match.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

finished fitting my inner fender. its ready to come off to be painted. I have a small crack to weld up as well. I started fitting the lower valance. I had to trim it and the front frame crossmember to get it to sit right. need a tiny bit more trimming. its coming.

Spent two days reading here to get me back in the mood. All I need now is for Spring to get here.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I get tired of fighting with parts people sometimes and have to retreat to the polishing bench and hide for a few days. I'm polishing brake and clutch stuff. The parts I have left to do in this batch should be easier than the ones I have done. These babies will slip right through the air, polished parts are so much more aerodynamic. I don't know why polished parts photograph so poorly but they look quite nice.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Finally got around to starting my '57 with the new Street Demon 625. I bought the carb at the tail end of 2019, didn't arrive until the first week of January, a few weeks later ran it out to my dad's shop and got it installed, went to turn the key, but the starter kept winding out. Bought a new starter, got it at the end of January and finally ran it out to my dad's shop today and got it installed and on the second turn of the key she fired right up. The truck starts so easily and idles perfectly now. It was raining today (Pacific Northwest) so I'll have to wait until next week for dryer weather to take her for a spin.

I'm going to need to shim that new starter :/

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

This is one of my Wilwood remote reservoirs. I rigged up this setup with a drum sander holder I took from the wood shop. It's on there quit well. I still put a blanket on the floor to avoid that sound that haunts us all of a polished part hitting the concrete. I didn't run the drill super fast and layed a wet rag on it. That's probably not super safe but no one will ever know. It was in nice shape just the normal fine machining marks. I sanded with 600-1000-1500-2000 and then buffed with tripoli compound. I used the rotary tool in the tight spots and the die grinder on the flats. It passes the serial number test. Next piece please.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I worked on my truck for the first time since moving to Idaho, WHOOOO HOOOOO! OMG did that feel good! Got NOTHING accomplished but the good feeling of touching my truck.

I posted about the problem I am having in the "message board" if you have any ideas let me know.

After taking a week off to help my Mom after my Stepdad passed away, I got back to working on hiding the under dash wiring and reinstalling my center console.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I feel like I went to a therapist tonight, I got out in the garage and put my "five minutes" in on my truck! Damn did I miss doing that! Stopped on the way home from work and got some metal. Made a template of the shim for the cab mounts and marked off my metal and drilled holes. Damn, I feel like a man again!

Yep! The hardest part was getting my "anvil" off the floor under a cabinet and up on my work bench. That baby is HEAVY!

I hear you. I have a few things to do to my truck that won't even cost anything but cold and rain have me out of the mood to work on it, even though it's in the garage.
