Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Man those interiors and gauges look great fellas....Hoping to add a big back window to my '61 in the near future....

Today I thought I was going to be busy mocking up my '61 apache cab onto my '73 frame but it was smoother than I thought to use the cherry picker to swing it onto the chassis....Gettting it ready for welder to come over on Monday to measure out where the cab mounts are gonna go, thats why clip is misaligned.......here's a few after pics.

Last pic is just of the chassis itself...all and any constructive critisism welcome...

welded in the hole where the radio used to be, made a great spot for my manual air ride valves. Still need to grind it down and make it look pretty.. good enough for today.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I finally got around to getting the motor de-tuned and dyno'd . I took it over to my friends shop in Phoenix - ProDyno. He does great work! I know the video is kinda boring but I didn't want to get slammed for not posting pics...lol.

A little warm up and a short run came out with 607 horsepower and 555 ft. lbs of torque at the rear wheels. The smoke at the end of the run actually cleared up after a few minutes, I had it running rich for so long it needed to clean the crap out. Had to adjust the timing back to 32 degrees and change carb jets from 108/103's to 95/93's . Taking 12% out of the blower made it more streetable. I can now run on 112 octane instead of 118. Over $4 per gallon savings!

I can actually drive it to Dino's party!!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Didn't get any pics, but made my own rack and pinion conversion crossmember today. Will install the rack and tie rod ends tomorrow. Moved the stock main crossmember forward 1 inch to center the wheel in the openings better. new engine should be here by weeks end. Hoping to have eng/trans in and roling chassis by Thanksgiving. Have all of the painless wiring chassis, efi and phantom key systems to install. Aiming for the all truck Nats in KC next year.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Hey tincan, what was involved in moving your crossmember forward ? Did you narrow it to fit the frame ?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Installed my driveshaft from Denny's, fit good, when I ordered I requested 3 inch, my truck is short bed, but I moved forward a hole on the eng perch, 700r4, Denny's suggested a 3.5inch due to length, two weeks turnaround excellent quality, arrived ready to install yoke and ujoints

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Took Tanya down to the AAA aproved auto shop to get her tailgate looked at. I finally got the adjuster to call me back, so hopefully this can be over with in a few days and I can start looking for a good tailgate, and finally move on with the project.

One good thing came of today: The guy that own this shop is an old friend of mine who had not seen Tanya yet. When we started talking about my plans for her he got really excited saying how he loves working on these old trucks. He offered to come to my shop and guide me through some of the rust repairs, and even help coach me on painting. Ray (the shop owner) has been doing body work for a very long time, and I've seen some really quality resorations that he has personally done, so I'm really stoked on what this means for Tanya! In turn He asked if I could come over tomorrow and help him fire up his 'Cuda he's been working on.....first time fire on a 440 'Cuda......I'd be crazy not to. Today was a good day.

Actually, I made my own new front crossmember. Sounds strange but I am using stock control arms, but moved forward 1" and the control arms mount 1 1/2" higher. Also added rack and pinion steering. will take some pics this weekend after final fitting. There's a method to my madness here - I really just wanted to see if I could achieve the stance I wanted.,without a $2000 front suspension kit. As a failsafe- always have to stocker to put back in!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

forgot to add. If this all squares up, hitting the frame shop to double check dimensions and alignment, then will gladly pass along the measurements. It's nothing that hasn't been done before, just wanted to try it Certain amount of pride in doing it yourself. Crossmember is all 1 1/2 tubing 1/8" wall thickness from a chassis shop. It bolts in to stock frame holes, upper control arm only moved forward 5/8" and added 3 degrees more antidive. Only set up for air ride, but if it works correctly, will make a version for coil springs or coil overs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Today i threw away the crappy pepboys brake lights that came on my truck and installed some quality BROTHERS cans.
It would've been pretty easy except for the having to solder a ground to the brake lights bulb housing. This made them WAY brighter. I also ran my own wires and used heat shrink and nylon wire dressing in place of the cheesy plastic that came with them. This is only 1 out of 200 on my list of things to do.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Here is a picture of the truck during trial fittting, rear corners do not have all components installed yet so that is why they are sticking up, it went pretty easy for a initial prototype install.

Here is the only modification we had to make to install a Craftec cover on a 66 short wide (at the rear corners this small gussett had to be cut down)

Very high quality would be very easy to install after doing one, and if we had read the directions and followed them it would have been easier still. Kieth

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Today, I threw out my B&M Unimatic floor shifter and took a page from Delmo's "Great big book of mods and tricks" and converted my E-brake handle to work as an automatic shifter handle. The floor shifter worked, but was really loud and clunky and whenever anyone rode in the buddy bucket, the shifter handle rubbed the back of their knee the whole time. And then, I'd get strange looks from them while reaching under their leg trying to go from reverse to drive or vice-versa. Haha.
