Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
More body work. Welded up the old farm mirror holes. Grateful to have access to some body shops to work in. Perks with the job. The other day played around with a sharpe, not sure if I will continue with it.

Installed 4 newer/better Yankee 77 marker lights, replaced 2 lenses that were white with amber ones, and generally made them all look better.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Is it normal for the rear light lens to be really tough to get in?
Seems as if it has shifted out of alignment, cant get the bottom screw back in. |

Does your truck have the chrome trim around the taillights? If so yes, you have to finess them to get them in. Where do you live in Saskatchewan?

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Installed my flywheel cover. And discovered about a pound of dirt inside the drivers door? Anyone know why that would be there primered the door and fender a little better from my body work yesterday. Closer to being one color at least.

Cleaned up the hardware (bolts and that angled steel bracket) to the driver side inner fender and outer fender. I just used Evaporust and wire wheel on that bracket and I have to say, it doesn't hold a candle to the effectiveness of electrolysis and Evaporust.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I thought I would try to get the last bit of shine out of my old 69. I tried clr but that must be just good for rust. the best way I found was to wet sand it with 1200. then I used meguires mirror glaze to get scratches out. finished it off with the mothers. it was a lot of work but it looks a little better. pictures show some before during and after.

Finally adjusted drivers side door, install new door seals (2nd Gen) SS thresholds and inside rear view mirror all from GMC Pauls. If I could figure out how to load more than one picture....on an iPad

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Got the appropriate adapter to get the rear brakes working on my truck. I still have to run new front lines to the new flex lines on the rotors, after converting to front disc brakes. Almost done. I put in new upper and lower control arm shafts and ball joints (the ball joints came with the kit). The ball joints were ORIGINAL from 1970, as were the rest of the steering components! I will admit that getting the master and booster replaced was a bit of fun that I am looking forward to never doing again. I'm going to make new lines for the front brakes with parts from the parts store. A bit different, drum to disc. I was thinking rear disc somewhere down the road. Not so sure, any more. Next is getting the wiring for the new (to us) trailer we bought installed. I have an old 5-pin connector. Talk about old-school! Got to get a 7-pin connector setup.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I pulled the 71 Camaro wheel I recently installed. The wheel is small and turn signal stalk was too close, my knuckles kept catching it. I modified it and its perfect now.
Repainted a pair of 15x8 rally wheels argent silver

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I attempted to change out my ball joints today. I accomplished three, but ran out of time tonight. I'll do the last one and the tie rod ends on Saturday.
The YouTube videos I watched sure made it look easy, but then again they weren't replace OE ball joints, on a 46 year old truck either. Knowing now what I learned today, Saturday should go smoother, and a lot less frustrating. |

Drove it around the block while sitting on a bucket because, you know, I couldn't let cobwebs grow on it.

Love the stepside man and you have the spare where God told GM He intended it to be.
I paid for two fender emblems, put up a counteroffer on two more, filtered all of the Evaporust I used last week, and I am just about to finish up spraying the bolts and clips from the removed inner fender with NAPA Rust Treatment. |
